Another day, another gig. This time, it was back to the Wolves Civic Halls for the fantastic New Order.
On the way I again popped into the MIller & Carter Steakhouse in Penn. This time, I tried their steak burger, with cheese and bacon, which was extremely tasty, followed by a very lush sticky toffee pudding.
I thought I'd actually missed the chance to catch New Order this time round as the gig had been sold out for a while, but last Thursday I received email notification that more tickets had been released. So I found myself sitting in the Right Balcony, level with the front of the stage. There were a few press and photographers around, so I reckon not all their allocation had been taken, hence the release of tickets. This position gave a fantastic view of the stage.
The support was Jake Evans, a singer / guitarist, who was backed by another guitarist and drummer. It turns out Jake is good friends with New Order's Bernard Sumner as for a while they were both members of Bad Lieutenant. Which possibly explains why his music had a touch of New Order to it. Indeed, for the penultimate song Bernard joined them on stage. Jake's set was very good and I would've have purchased his CD if it had been a tenner instead of £15.
After the usual 30 minute break, at 9pm New Order took to the stage for their set, which was a smidge under two hours. They were on top form, playing a mix of classic New Order and Joy Division tracks and songs from their new album, Music Connect. The encore concluded with Love Will Tear Us Apart followed by Blue Monday.
A fantastic evening's entertainment, with some classic chair dancing from yours truly!
