So first things first, for yesterday BETH....happy birthday to you happy birthay to you, happy birthday to you happy birthday to you. May God bless you, may God bless you, may God bless youuu, happy birthday to you. How old are you now, how old are you now, how old are you now, happy birthday to you.....21!!! Hope that you had a great day!
Our Thursday didn't actually end up happening much to our disappointment, as the weather was a little bit rubbish, and everyone was tired due to the end of term....so another bang up night in.....Friday in nice and early for some breakfast, and then unbelieviably a 'Muffin Social'....YES B-doggy dog brought in muffin for everyone that was doing Professional Development....we got out of that thank goodness as we had to go and see Ivan about Project week.
So basically for Project week we will be visiting all three villages, and will be doing painting and bits and pieces...we are very excited! So we leave for that on Weds, but on Monday we have to go and do this kind of theatre training/bonding session with the pupils who will be going!
So the rest of Friday we didn't do too much...i had to scan in some student finance bits to home, and Rose had to check a few reports....whilst waiting to go out with the gals, the Earthquake detection alarm kept going off....Himlal assured us that it was broken, but then Deepa informed us that there might be an earthquake tomorrow...OH MY GOODNESS!! Off we went out to Patan with some teachers....the assisstant teacher Sangita in my class and of course Roses lovely teacher Kanchan came as well as a few others....we ordered chang, and loads of other Newari foods...BUFF BUFF BUFF! One of the buff dishes actually tasted like the smell of a cows barn, and another buff dish was RAW BUFF....we both tried, but then steered well clear of both of those! Bara, a type of omlettey kind of pancake thingo with buff in is pretty good, and then some dried, beaten, fried buff with lemon....good good....so the gaaaals all got pretty changed up, and after Sangita's famous comment from a week ago 'i love to drive when i am drunk' we headed home....but not before the place had given us a bottle of chang to take home! We headed around all of these back alleys with the receptionist 'Ruby' to get to the post office....we had to go through a hospital....wow......the emergency room was kind of outside with all of the fumage....but it didn't actually look too bad...no post Mumma D....we will check one more time though!
Everyone was preparing for Holi festival, so we had to be on our guard....one water bomb was thrown but somehow Ruby took it for the team on the backs of her legs....so kind! Came home and watched TV...Great Fri night....Sat tomo.....HOLI.
So Saturday! HOLI FESTIVAL!!! After being warned by pretty much everyone at school not to go out at all today, but if we do decide to go out, do not go in the afternoon! So after the Security Guards put red paint on our faces, we did an internet session and then thought that we would test the waters and just head to Ram Store to see if the rumours were true...YES....as soon as we hit the main road, the white people (us) were spotted and water bombs hit us from all corners...roofs, windows, people just running upto us and hitting us....and they really do hurt! There are no rules about the distances that they should be thrown from! And then stupidly, instead of hiding we walked towards a group of male youths...who all had their faces completely painted (Amy you would have been petrified) they were kind of like clowns....someone shouted, and then boom at least 10 boys hit us with water bombs just outside Ram Store....but we made it alive! On the way back home, someone threw one at me and missed...i stupidly responded with 'Good shot' and 3 other ballons were thrown, each one a true good shot....painful! Back home and informed the Security Guards that is wasn't 'Happy Holi' it was 'Horrible Holi' and headed upstairs! The original plan was to head out to Patan to really get into the celebrations....but we were in pain from the blows of the balloons and a little disheartened that we were targeted quite so much!
We found Ilya working in the dining hall and so did some colouring in bits for her, and then headed out again to Ram Store....Trial number 2! It was now 4pm, and all had quitened down a lot, so all was ok...got some cheese, tomatoes, and a beer for Ilya as she was too scared to go out! Had beans on toast with tommy's and then headed down for a tinternet sess....Rose has checked lots of reports today...the internet has slowed down SO much! Maybe its preparing us for not having daily internet sessions in the luxury of a computer room in India! Powercut, so headed off upstairs to bed...
Sunday today, report checking, although noone has actually given us anymore to check yet so we are a waiting....and then later at 3pm we are off to JK (driver....'No money no honeys' cousin) his house to celebrate the rest of Holi....hopefully it will be more coloured powder and less water...but who knows! And then tomorrow we are off to this theatre training/bonding day with all of the project week people.
Don't want to make Rose too emotional but ita has to be said...we only have 2 more school lunches...and 4 more nights in our beds in the Penthouse...
At the beginning of our time here when Rose was in desperate need of a man hug...i bet her that she wouldn't be able to get a hug with Bikash before we leave....and it couldn't be a goodbye hug....SO today is her last day to get this...for a snickers bar....will she manage it??!!
Lots of love to everyone at home....OH ANNNDDD
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY....Mumma B and Mumma D.....HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!
