Hello to our fans....
First stuff about yesterday....firstly it was world aids day, so in Grade 5 (with Megla) they had a litttle lesson about it. The children were told, 'remember guys, you can catch aids from saliva.'.......OH......MY......GOD!!!!!!! Then later on one of the kiddy winkles pipes up with, 'My doctor says its fine to reuse needles that have been boiled in water'............mouth hanging open onto the floor! Oh my giddy arnt, we are most definitely in a 3rd world counrty!
After snacks yesterday we had a lovely chat with Saryu (reception lady) and at the end she was asking about our boots and how much we paid, bla bla. Then we said they were quite expensive cause in England leather is made from the skin of a cow....I swear to the Lord she nearly ate her computer! A COW....in Nepal cows are sacred animals. So I said to her, 'Yeah Meg is walking around with a cow on her feet!'...made her chuckle, but only a little bit! So later we researched and found out what they use to make leather here.....take a guess?? (See bottom of page for answer)
Then, we had a major low point of the day, maybe even our lowest since arrival...we got told off....by Bikash....we nearly cried. It was very silly of us, I think we actually thought we were at home here, as we were putting our feet on the coffee table in the staff room. We did in all honesty take them off when people came in, but we must have been spotted, cause Bikash commented on it saying,' In this culture it is REALLY rude to do that, and people have actually mentioned it to me over the week. If the headmaster caught you, you could be sacked.'.....yes we wanted to weep there and then. We felt too bad. It was a warning more than anything....but we need to remember we are actually in NEPAL!!
Lastly....after internet last night we headed up to bed in the Penthouse and I am telling you is was a freezer in there. Meg was convinced that our bedroom is the coldest room in the house...could be by a few degrees, but lets be honest, it all freaking cold....but as she is VERY cold at night, even with 4 tops, trousers and socks...and not forgetting the summer sleeping bag she bought, not the best idea in the winter time of any country!! So we moved bedrooms, to the dressing room...beds are together, so we can double up with our blankets- this was a good idea. Personally I am having with drawl symptoms from bedroom number one, and feel sorry for it now all empty. But meg said she was much warmer, so will give this a try. It is a little clostraphobic in new bedroom, as everything we own in all in the smallest room of the Penthouse....lets just say this is only a trial!
So onto today....we went on a school outing with Grade 5....not 4 cause they are too naughty! To a school in the south of Kathmandu, it was a really poor school run by a family of nuns....it was amazing! During the bus journey we were talking American gangster to the children, and was all' Dude where's my car?' and the boy returned, 'well I dont know!' hehe. The school (ullens) donated loads of clothes and food to them, it was really nice. Quite funny, as soon as we stepped out the van it was like 'AHHH WHITE PEOPLE'...the nuns ushered us to go to the school and sit down whilst everyone else carried all the donations in! We said , no no we will help carry. But as soon as we were in, we were given chairs, water, juice, biscuits! LOVED IT. The school was amazing, voluteers from Durham Uni had decorated the inside, it was stunning! All painted. Then had a tour of the school....makes us realise how lucky we are at Ullens I tell you that. One of the classes we were told there was a girl with aids. They all seem very happy though to be there. And all the teachres get paid 3000RS....thats 30 pounds a month!!
We are officially becoming HOSTS tomorrow night....better clean up the penthouse! We are having a movie night with Suzanne and Colin....we are treating them to a night in the Grade 4 class room watching a film, maybe even on the projector.....movie night, with take-a-way Mo Mo's....NOT from 'Sandwich Corner' AKA Cockroach Corner!!! How very exciting!
Went up to our room after lunch today.....THANK GOODNESS.....we had left the shower on again, and there was a MASSIVE flood....bigger than last time!! It was very funny, we tried to sweep the swimming pool outside onto the balcony, using a window type cleaner!! I know you think 'how is that possible' but this morning when we tried to shower, there was no water, and we fiddled around trying to fix it and then didnt know which way was on and which was off....obviously it was on!!! It may have stained the carpet....we will put a piccy up.....its a BIG flood!
Got the day off tomorrow....woop woop....so plan of action for tomorrow is...wake up, shower (its been 4 days now)...walk up the road for some satsumas and FRUIT in general, have lunch at school, cut my hair (rose)...people at home please pray for me, meg is my hairdresser!! Snack, then movie night with Colan and Suzzie....eventful.
Peace out people, Megaloo Poo Poo........
Just a quickie....we have just watched the film 'Clash of the Titans' (average) in Grade 4, with the projector on the white board aka our own personal cinema WITH a heater....we're in heaven. The film was about Pegasus and at the end Meg said 'didn't he also get some flying flip-flops?' hahahaha.....does anyone know if this was the guy who got these so called flip-flops| (others may know they were infact sandles!)
Answer- olaffub retaw (work that one out!) ;) cheeky wink
