Okay a longun today....RAFTING!!
We woke for the bus at 6am....due to leave at 6.40am....set off at 7am! Not too bad. Did the rounds and picked a few people up, met up with the other nus and we were off.
5 hours later we arrived at the Trusili River. I am not going to lie, the road was as busy as the M25 but single laned and full of massive lorries....some very eventful overtaking, when we weren't stuck in a queue, and the road could do with a bit of a touch up. VERY funny moment during the journey, when they thought we were asleep....so one of tyhem started saying 'Yeah, its really only a game for white middle class people, only white people'....at which point I turned to the person and opened my eye and said, 'what are you talking about?'.....oh they were embarassed, went on to say, they meant only in AMERICA!!! So not dissing us Brits...and they were chatting about lacrosse by the way!!
So arrived, and got ready. Headed down to the rafts. 3 boats with about 10 in each. Meg was blue team, Rose was YELLOW!! Meg had 2 other teachers, Rose...the only 'teacher' (2 years older than everyone on the boat!). Set off, when a boy in yellow said to Rose 'I'm nervous....and at least you can swim!'....half the poeple in my boat couldnt swim, I flet a little pit of pressure, dispit the fact that we have lifejacets on!!....one other minor problem on yellow boat....only nepalese was spoken as I was very much out numbered, so at one point, they were chatting to the boat man and I asked what he said, the boy replied 'Oh he's just telling us what to do when we get to the rapids'....end of!! GREAT!!
So we all headed off, down to the rapids. We were told that this was grade 2 out fo 5! But 5 is illegal to do! The first rapid we reached, Rose was clung onto by boy who couldn't swim....I see that as the best swimmer I am cleartly going down with those who cant!!
After half an hour, we arrived at the campsite....not your usual campsite I must say...I bet you all think, 'uh oh, what was it like'....5 star is what. Each person got a house tent, with real beds in them. Showers, western toilet, loo rolls, camp fire, river, sand....the most beautiful view....I think it is heaven!!
So after the boat men in charge prepared lunch- tuna and mayo, peanut butter, mushroom salad, biscuits, CRISPS....a feast....we headed back onto the river.
Off we wenty on the 2 1/2 hour trip down the rapids. IT WAS INSANE....so much fun. Meg had a boy who went over board on a rapid and went under the boat, whilst trying to rescue the boys oar she smacked a boy on board with her oar, in his eye....all very eventful. But all was fine in the end....no real harm done!
On board the yellow team (rose) one of the boys said (very politely) 'Mam, would yo mind if I pushed you off the boat....just because its fun?'....I said of course, but he can save it for a surprise to make it even more exciting. So I was pushed in eventually, and I will not lie, it was freezing, I thought I would turn blue! I was pulled out the boat, with some effort, and everyone was laughing at me....so I turned to the boy who pushed me and gave him a big kich in the lifejacket and knocked him off the boat....now thats a surprise!! He did come up choking and a bit shocked (found out later he couldnt swim!!), but again all ended well. He even said at the end that he liked my kick!!!
The rapids were actually really quite scary....a few times we thought we would all fall out. Everyone was soaked and cold, but it was GREAT!! We loved loved loved it.
Picked up at the end, and headed back to camp. 'The Big Fig' (due to the big fig tree).....had supper in a resaurent (all paid for) which was delicious, then headed back to camp, around the fire, for....more food!! CHICKEN....give us meat!! It was so yummy.
Us 'teachers' sat around the fire, chatting and fire gazing...it was beautiful. BUT no matter where you are......there is always a dog barking!! Not 101 dalmations, maybe only 3!! Also an addition noice...jackals- wolf type things!
So to sum it up.....WE LOVED IT....smiling all over! AND we went to bed at 11.45pm.......we are mental, latest night so far!!
Meegan, over to you sister......
