So it is Friday before school....last night we were informed by Biken that, as planned, we were meeting him on Friday for the Tourist Opening ceromony in the Stadium....ummm, we were not informed about this actually but yes please we will be there!!
So arrived at 10am at Bikens office, had a quick lunch, of delicious Dal Bhat and RICE...then hit the stadium. We were late so it was busy busy busy, lost of people, and yes we were the only white people. made it to our gate where we were met with a shut door, oh dear. This is not looking good....have no fear Biken is here, or rather WE were there....Biken flashed around the fact he was with 2 white girls at a tourist events, therefore we were let in....as were a few others who pushed in with us, all of whom thanked us after!!
Found a seat on the concrete steps and had a lovely 4 hour session of Nepalese dancing and singing, all folk stuff, really good fun. But Meg had a mahoosive headache so soildered through it. At the end we walked out, where Biken told some boys to hand over there flags to us, little hand flags, so kind of them.....5mins later, we walked past some girls with MASSIVE flags, Biken made it clear in Nepali that they were to give us the flags, we said no, but nothing would stop the big B...so we got the flags. Thanks girls! Went to a nepalese resauarnt with the big B and his brothers from another mother, Dinesh and Basu. The food was AMAZING, all Nepali stuff, like Nepalese pizza, battered rice....buff liver and tongue...yep tongue, it was disgusting! The texture was ALL wrong, tongue eating tongue in NOT right. We also tucked into some....RUM AND COKE!! But we told the boys that we had to get back home, so would have to leave at 6 for the last bus. No, no, no....they were not happy with this, instead THEY will take us home later in the car....okay then!!
So went to a really smart bar, which had some classic english tunes such as Blue, love it. So had a cracking dance with the boys, taught them to dance english style....when the tables have turned they are not so easily adaptable to other cultures dance moves....so we swiftly moved onto a Nepalese bar...where Dinesh's (real) sister worked. They played all the Nepali tunes we LOVE and we had such a great dance....I danced the whole night with a lovely old man, when ever he saw me on the dance floor, up he hopped for a boogie woogie!! Had some more rum, and by the end of the evening we were all very jolly....Mr driver man came up to me and said, 'okay, I just need 15mins dancing to get the rum down and then we will go!'...sure sure, that sounds goooood!!
Dont worry it was all safe and sound! We had a lovely evening. Woke up feeling a little poorly, but nothing major. Had a beautiful jug shower then we went out to some place to watch our friend Nayan in his poetry slammin thingy! It was at this great book shop, it was good fun, the poets were really good, they were all young school kids. Also plus side, there was free drinks (tea not booze), hello hello. After the show we were all stood talking when....the phone rang....hallooo, we have been invited out to the cinema and then out for supper, yes yes yes please! So picked up 1/2 an hour later and we headed to the cinema!
We watched 'The Green Hornet' VERY funny film, the Nepalese people loved it, they were laughing the whole way through, even at bits that werent really funny! They made the whole film even better. It was a very surrial feeling, sat in Nepal watching an English 3D film with popcorna and a coke....strange but great! Then found a place to eat, in a really nice resauant, on the way there we were handed over a bottle (large) of....wisky!! Great, tuck into that! The restauant let us take it in, so we drank the whole thing in one sitting....end result not good. The food was fantastic, we talked and talked....got kicked out at 10.30 by the restauant, at which point we should have headed home, by oh no oh no...lets go on a road trip!! Went to a place called Godavari to check out the stars, turns out to be a cloudy night, so no stars to even see. Then we were taken into the coloney they live in....we were given the grand tour of the house, which had no bed sheets or anything, most bizaar! At which point we decided we should go home....well Meg did, I am a little shady on this time of night, I dont bode well with wisky!
Meg decided enough was enough by 2.30AM....so she made a fake phone call from the security gaurds saying we HAD to go home....it was an oscar winning performance, at the time even I was convinced.....even though I fully well know the gaurds dont even have our number! So well done Meg is all I can say.
I awoke at 7 not too sure how I was feeling, BUT I had a vague memory that Meg was not too happy with me last night (I think cause I didnt co operate enough with the mission to come home asap), so I crawled out of bed and....did the washing up and made us a cuppa tea....went into the bedroom and appolagised to Meg....turns out, there was no need, Meg was not infact at all angry at me!! PHEW!!
Sunday before school.....we felt right rough! The worst headache ever, made it into school purely for the food, didnt attend any meetings, which is very bad of us, but we were not in a fit state! In general, we shant be doing that again, we have a rule now....10.30 is the deadline to go home, end of!!
So school tomorrow....yaaaay, cant wait, lets get marking!! Maggie....
