So OK...last Wednesday...wowowowo that seems like a long while ago! So last Thursday a normal day apart from we walked outside of Ullens and there was a lorry in a ditch...standard! The morning was Grade 2's dress rehearsal in front of the younger grades. It went swimmingly and was a great success ...Thursday afternoon we went and watched an IB performance that was directed by one of the pupils....it really was a great play. Half in Nepali and half in English it was amazing! A very dramaish day indeed! Thursday also saw the vacuum cleaner and Rose on her hands and knees bathroom cleaning in time for the big arrival of our mumma and pappa.
Lots of rain and thunderstorms this week....so wet, chilly and windy...not like Nepal at all! Friday, the actual performance of Grade 2's play in front of parents. I was given the role of photographer whilst Rose was backstage carrot giver....a major part in the play 'The Stone soup'....all in all a success and nice to get out of the classroom for a bit! Although Rose was rather upset missing her horseriding! After lunch, the Grade 1 teachers rushed to find us, and off we went to a wedding...YES a wedding in the middle of a Friday! We had talked about it so much with the Grade 1 teachers, they thought that it was only right that we went! So in Him Lal (Vice Principal) car off we headed on a little girly outing to the other side of the city for a second lunch! GREAT FOOD....we even had seconds in our second lunch! And then back to school as i had an extyra class to take. This time though, it was a love marriage and the bride looked very happy! They even got given a fridge....maybe a little pointless now that the powercuts are upto 14 hours per day! So its official...the Grade two teacher is off to America (well actually she has now left...she left yesterday) Sooo Rose has taken over Grade 2!!! For now she is with Suzanne but Suzie leaves next Fri and then we will be the dream team of Grade 2! Proper on our own teaching.....a little scary as Grade 2 are mental...and we don't even know their names! So Fri night....Dehal in the kitchens promised us extra pizza but unfortunately it all got eaten, so next week! Watched a film and then headed to bed VERY excited for the big arrival tomorrow!
Woke up pretty early on Saturday and continued the big clean. We had a massive flood on our roof like a swimming pool as downstairs tank was leaking....so sorted that, and then 'Two Star' Security Guard came up to get us for the lunch date with the Security Guards that we had planned....SO exciting!! It was like a restaurant! They had layed out a bench for us like a table...and we had more rice than we have ever eaten....but so good! We also tried a dried red chilli each....nowhere near as spicy as one might imagine....actully pretty good! "Mr Hello' Security Guard did the cooking, and it was so good! So so kind of them to invite us! After lunch, we did our own washing up, much the the Security Guards disgust! They gave us the paper to read, and then we headed to Ram store to get food and drinks for the big arrival! A chilled afternoon, and then the security guards called us down for lemon tea.....sooo sweet of them! It was lovely jubbly! They then informed us that we didn't have a driver to do the airport pick up, so we rang Shyam and got that sorted and awaited 'No Money No Honeys' arrival.....he arrived at 6pm and off we went to the Airport sooooooo excited! 6.15pm we arrived to find that Mumma and Puppas plane had already arrived! They came through arrivals at 6.30pm and it was great to seem them! We asked 'No money no honey' if he was excited, and he told us that he was super excited! We LOVE him! I won't write anymore about their time here as they are going to do a blog entry themselves! Currently ma and pa are off travellign around Nepal....they stayed with us from Saturday until Tuesday, when we had such a great time...they will be back with us on Wednesday....
So since Tuesday when we waved goodbye to ma and pa, we have been very busy! Rose is half and half between Grade 4 and 2, and we have been out on both Weds and Thursday night....Wednesday night, we headed in 'No Money no honeys bus' of course to the theatre on the east side of Kathmandu....a fantastic place where we sat on the floor and watched the IB's performance again...it was great...the media were there and two of the students have been scouted to take part in a TV show! After the play we waited 45 minutes for 'No Money no honey' but at this time we had a great chat to all of the actors! Mahesh has also now headed to America for 3 weeks, but we gave him a creme egg...as hehas given us lots of films this week, such as 'The Kings Speech' what a cracker of a film! We also watched 'The Black Swan'...another cracker! Drove home with 'No Money no Honey' listening to some beautiful tuneage....it was just one of those moments that we both agreed we had to take a picture with our minds....the best moment...driving through Kathmandu at night listening to english tunes with our favourite driver! Arrived back at Ullens and much to both 'Laxmi Driver' (The horseriding driver) and 'No money no honey' we helped unload the vans of the stage set. 'No Money no honey' then let us get onto the roof of the van and drove us around....i saw we, but unfortunately i was unable to get onto the roof, due to my lack of leggage and flexibility, but Rose had a great time!
Thursday night we headed out in 'No money no honeys' van of course with Grade 6, 7, 8 and 9 to watch Chinese Acrobatics quite literally the most disturbing thing! A ballerina doing the proper pointed toes on a mans shoulder....and then a man balancing on his head on top of another persons head....freaking weird and amazing at the same time! Plus for free....In true Nepalese style, we were not checked for tickets, and of course when the seats were full the floor then also got filled up...definitely the most filled up theatre we have seen....us and Ilya i'm pretty sure were the only whiteys! Today, Friday a normal day....and yes Dekal (chef) has given us extra pizza for our bang up Friday night in! But tomorrow night we are off out with Ivan and Shane (American and French fellow whitey teachers from IB)...this will be cool and we are very excited! Plus they have offered to pay as we are volunteers! Sunday we have been invited into the school kitchens to learn how to cook Nepali style....and then Tues a potential invite from Sangita teacher in my class to try 'Chang' the Nepalese alcohol made of fermented rice.....mm mm mm!
OH and Rose got an offer from Glasgow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats all for now! A chilled day tomo....its only 4 weeks until we leave here....its going to be emotional!
