So back to school Monday (a week ago)....wow school is definitely more enjoyable without pupils! Circle time was an epic mission that went on for 2 hours in my class...and then lunch....so loud!!!! All in all not a great week, settling back into the routine of school was a little hard, with the freezing cold mornings and our lack of hot water!!!
By the time Friday came, i was close to break-down point. We had been promised hot water every single day! Rose being always the optimist, got us through this low point and hit Ram store for some chocolate! Leaving the keys with the security guards, so that the hot water could be fixed while we were away, we layered up big styley and headed into Thamel for our date with the boys....Biken and Basu....after last Saturdays 3am night with Sunit...we were a little apprehensive and so took all of the necessary cautions....we topped up the phone, took 100 pounds with us, and informed Suzanne of our plans! Met up with Biken, and Basu and got ready for our adventure!
When they put on their motorbike helmets we 100 percent hoped that they would then hand us ours, but no...thats not how they roll here, on travelled helmetless through the mental streets of Nepal where pedestrians walk into the road oblivious that there might be traffic about to hit them! Rose went with Basu, and me with Biken...it turned out, Rose with Mr Speedo, and me with Mr Slow lets go through all of the pot holes....WE LOVED THE DRIVE! Although it was getting very dark, very cold, and we were driving up a mountain, the drive was amazing....32km and it took 1 1/2 hours, the hotel stood at 7,200 feet...the highest we have ever been! We arrived at 7.30pm and we got onto the 'roxy' (rum) straight away! Ordered some snacks of the best 'chilli chips', 'chilli chicken' and peanut masala....so good...and then a supper of pizza and then indian curry....so full up! Still a little cold, and not wanting rum and water, we asked the kitchens if they could heat up some coke for us....'samasia chyiana' they replied 'no problem' a word that we have now learnt thanks to Biken Sirs great teaching! We were both remembering these words as 'Somerset China' thinking of Perrott and Toby always saying 'you might as well be in China'! Thinking that we had it down we have been using these words alot....but it appears, that we have been pronouncing it wrong and actually saying 'we have no samosa's' very embarrassing for us!
So hot coke went down a treat, it loses the fizz but really is ok! We began our english lesson with Biken teaching him a few new words 'settle pettle' and 'take a chill pill'...he really is learning quite a lot of good english....'chilly willy' and 'poop a scooped' are definite favourites of his, but he is mastering 'see you later alligator' and 'in a while crocoldile'...next weeks lesson with be 'man up' and 'grow a pair' as we didn't want to overload them too much this week!
Chatted until 11.30pm and then we decided that we wanted to go to bed, so they showed us our room, and that was that! Sooooo cold, we slept in all of the layers that we had on....including our gloves! Set the alarm for sunrise and both had a good old sleep! 7.10am 'Meeeeeeeggg we have missed the sunrise' Oh no...we looked out of the window, and thank our buddha it was the mistiest day we have ever seen...Nagarkot where we are staying is meant to be the best place in Nepal to see a panaormaic view of the Himalaya's....even Everest can be seen! But not today! Breakfast at 9...bacon and eggs...unfortunately for Rose, buff bacon...! And then a beauty trek up to a viewpoint for a hot chocolate...lovely jubbly! Back to hotel and off on the bikes home....but first up to the viewing tower 3km away....Rose and Basu zoomed off, but myself and Biken had a little trouble and i had to get off of the bike going up one of the hills! Nice view of the mist, and a lot of litter and then back on the bikes for home....the best journey in the sunshine...stopped off just outside Bhaktapur for a spot of lunch at a place just as dodgy as cockroache corner...where we had beaten rice (this is now know as battered rice) buff....they liked to call it chicken, but we knew! And momo's...a weird kind in a kind of soup...they were good! Super funny....the buff was a bit bristley and us Brits aresn't so good at eating the bristle....so we put it on the side of our plate...Rose didn't eat much of the buff and Biken tucked into hers, not knowing that she had chewed some of it! He ate her chewed pieces.....YUK!!!!
Back off on the bikes to schoolio....NOT A PENNY SPENT...yes of course we offered, but no no no they weren't having any of it! THE BEST NEWS.....HOT WATER!!!! We both had a shower after 2 1/2 weeks of not showering!!! Nicely windburnt and in super high spirits we hit up the internet (skyped the 2 D's) and then watched TV! Sooooo gooood!!!!
Sunday (today) we have both been colouring in, in Grade 4....pretty chilled....bummed that we missed breakfast as we got up to late, but all in all a good day! We walked into Grade 4 where the always honest Songita said firstly to Rose 'you need to do your eyebrows' and then to me....'i think your trousers are too tight!' sets us up for the day these lovely comments in the morning! ...an epic 1 1/2 hour meeting where we were weirdly introduced to everyone...3 months in! A little haircut for me performed by Rose teacher and then now internet and a film....Finally up to date!
In answer to Donalds question....in the winter holiday we visited Chitwan National Park and then Pokhara.
Hope all is well at home...Nanny Hills finally on the mend along with Amy and Mumma D....Love to everyone xxxx
