Today was the day of the staff picnic....bus leaving at 7am in the morning. Alarms set, all ready, up early, ate breakfast....we finally left at 8.45am.....thats Nepal!!!
Headed off eventually on the rickety bus, which of course had no seat belts, and drove along roads with sear drops down to the bottome with no road railings on the side!! It got a bit nerve racking, especially when we had to pass on coming busses! but we made it in one piece!
Headed to the our picin area, which was down the hill a little bit. We went with a couple of the staff to see the temple that was in the villiage! Nepalese people were free....us westerners....1 pound! Rip off! But got to see some pretty cool stuff, like the oldest insription in Nepal....so was worth the money!!
Headed back to camp, where the food was being set up, the school had bought along 2 massive hobs and all the dishpans and all that....this is no english style picnic....we are talking, taking it to the extremes! We all sat around talking, then Shyam taught us and a few others a great card game called 'dumples'....we love it, But we didnt ever win, cause everyone else cheated!
Had a bit of breaky, and also a bit later a mid morning snack....seriously spicy. Meg trooped on and ate all her meals, everylast bit (apart from the SPICY SAUSAGES) I couldn;t quite handle it....I tried my best but this stuff is HOT!!
After the snack....we amd a few of the girl teachers, went to find the river.....30minutes later we finally reached the river, which was not amazing, but cooled our feet down. But I am not going to lie, all I was thinking was 'Oh dear god....we have to walk backup there!" and the walk was very very steep. It nearly was too much for me to handle....we stopped only twice, but my oh my I personally could barley breath, we powered it up. Also half way we heard the tunes bang around our campsite and that meant......DANCING!!
Had a little sit down before a lovely boogie. They played no english songs, so we went with the flow and tried to copy their moves.....so we wouldn't look odd!! Good boogie had all around. Some very classic moves, that we shall be bringing back to England with us....we warned!!
ANOTHER meal follwed the dancing, were we met one of our new friends. Mr Literature Man, who sat and talked to us for about 1 1/2 hours....and I mean he talked...we sat and listened, and lauighed! He is very amusing, uses all the slang language, and even a few swear words popped out...turned out he had a a little bit of alcohol!! We enjoyed his company though, great times.
Then the bus home....we thought we had missed it, but all was good. Jumped on board our bus, which turned out to be the intoxicated bus....the men were all singing Nepalese songs VERY loudly next to us in the ails! It made us laugh so much....we really did quite enjoy it. Next thing we hear is 'English....English'.....and they stat singing 'We will, we will, rock you'....LOVE IT!! Had a few great tunes balsted out that we could sing along to....which of course we did, flying the English flag and all!! We made our 2nd friend of the day here....Mr American Studies, he studied in America....he has invited us round to watch the football some time, cause he supports Man U!! Made us chuckle so much, he was great fun!
So a highly amasing day, we met lots more people, and had a great laugh! We are sooooo tired tonight, so off to bed we go!
Oh of course, I cannot forget this....meg is disgraced by the amount of rubbish all over the country! We saw a man just drop his coffee cup on the floor. We both agree it is really quite bad,....Meg a little bit more maybe. She did her part at the end of the day by picking all our rubbish from around the picnic area, well the area we were in! Which was very good of her....well done Meg!!
Over to you Megface.....
