Today was my annual pilgrimage to Alton Towers. This year I was accompanied by my long-term collaborator and his two teenage children - their first trip here.
We drove up separately as I was heading back to Mum's at the end of the day. I arrived first and had time to go on Oblivion, which features vertical drop, and Rita, which accellerates from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds, before the other arrived.
We met up at the Runaway Mine Train and then made for Nemesis, which was as great as ever.
Air has been revamped into Galactica, but was temporarily closed so we made our way to Duel, then on the Sky Ride to 13 and Rita and back to Oblivion before enjoying a Fried Chicken lunch.
We then revisited Oblivion, Rita and 13 before going back to Galactica which had re-opened. The coaster itself is the same, so you still lie on your front. But Virtual Reality headsets have been added to give a virtual galactic tour as you go round the ride - awesome.
We didn't bother with Smiler as the queues were long and, to be honest, we don't rate it that highly anyway. Hex was closed again as they were getting ready for Scarefest. The Flumes looked like they were permanently closed.
We all had a great day!
