So I woke up this morning about 4am unable to swallow or breathe properly and my whole body hurt, like my joints and muscles ached. I text mum to find out what the symptoms of Tonsillitis are, as 1/2 others in the camp have had it. Turns out that's exactly what I had.
I told Rick, the guy meant to be training me on my second shift this morning, that I didn't feel well and was going back to bed. He came back in at about 8:30am to see if I was any better and able to work, but I just felt worse.
Reception rang the doctors but being a Saturday they were fully booked up, and they are closed on a Sunday. So instead Rick took me too hospital in Coffs Harbour to get checked out.
I checked in and saw the nurse who told me it was my tonsils, she logged my details and asked me to wait for the doctor.
3 hours of waiting later, having chased them up 3 or 4 times I still hadnt been seen to, and I felt absolutely awful. I couldn't stand waiting anymore so I told the nurse to do what she could and I was going. She gave me some parecetomol based drugs and some aspirin, but said only the doctor could give me antibiotics.
I rang Mojo to get someone to come and pick me up, and expected someone to be there in half an hour - 40 minutes (the time it takes to get to Coffs Hospital from Spot X).
An hour and a half later someone eventually arrives to pick me up, so it goes without saying I was thoroughly pissed off by this point.
I just went straight back to bed once I arrived back at camp and slept until dinner time. I went and tired to eat some soup for dinner as I hadn't eaten anything for 24 hours but it still really hurt to swallow anything so didn't manage to eat too much.
I found out from the others at dinner -
• I had missed Lasse leaving while I was at hospital
• It had been a beautiful sunny day, the nicest it had been for a week or so
• The predicted swell had arrived, and it was the best surf to hit since I have been here.
I went straight back to bed after dinner, about 7pm..
