Today, what started as a rubbish day actually turned into one of the best on academy..
I got up for my 7am lesson to find the surf is awful - Arrawarra is half a foot and choppy as hell. We all went to Malawarra for our lesson...which was 1ft and also choppy, plus a lot of horrible rips going through the peaks. I had 2 good waves but it didn't save me from having the most frustrating and annoying session since I have been here.
After an hour or so I sacked it off and came back to camp to chill, to find the next group were being taken to a different beach for their lesson. Dan and Charlie were also going off to surf a different beach in Dans car, so I chucked my board in and jumped in too.
We went to a beach called the 'Back of Sandies'. Walking over the dune and down to the beach we could see glassy clean 2ft waves peeling in the bay. We only surfed for an hour and a bit before getting back to camp for lunch, but it was one of the most fun sessions I have had in Aus, I think partly due to the beautiful surroundings.
After lunch we had Instructors Theory again. Linton gave us all some very useful little tips to use when getting involved in a lesson which was good.
After theory Dan, Charlie and I went off on to explore 'Red Rock', the beach break right on the Southern End of Arrawarra Bay. It was small and quite messy there in the end, so instead of surfing we just went for a walk off up the headland which was cool.
When I got back to camp Dave told me he won't be moving out our room despite being an Employee and not on Academy any more, which is sick as we get on brilliantly. To celebrate we decided make our room the LADS room it always should have been - we chucked out vast amount of crap which has accumulated from past inhabitants, fixed a broken TV so we will now be able to watch movies in here, got the oven/hobs working so we can cook bacon sandwiches in here and of course decorated (involving a 6ft by 4ft surfing poster.. and many pages from a couple of magazines laying around..). I will have to take a photo for remembrance purposes.
After all the handy work and eating dinner I am super tired at 9pm and am going to bed. Our lesson tomorrow is at 9:30 so I get a lay in too, woooooo.
