I managed to hide in a really quiet residential area last night on the headland above the beach, so managed a good sleep which is always nice. We must have had substantial rain last night though, as everywhere was soaked this morning.
About 6am I woke up and went and ate breakfast whilst checking out the surf. Unfortunately it was smaller than yesterday arvo, but still looked a fun 2/3ft, so after breakfast I paddled out. I surfed for about 2 and a half hours; I was fun but not as good as it looked really, it was petty shifty and hard to get in the right spot.
Up till lunch I read my book on the beach, it was warm but a little over cast. I'm still a pretty good shade of brown/pink on my front this evening though despite the suncream, so it must have been clear enough!
About 1pm just as I finished my lunch we had a brief thunderstorm to accompany the high humidity, then when it cleared I went swimming.
It was brilliant fun body surfing in the barrelling shore break, and surprisingly wasn't too cold provided to kept moving. The water really isn't that warm though, especially compared to the north.. Although I am now only 150km from Sydney, so I should expect it really.
Having messed about on the beach for a while I had to go and do the task I had been putting off - food shopping. I seem to have managed to get into a good routine though where I can last 3/4 days without going, other than a loaf of bread.
I was tempted to go and spend another night at Redhead as I knew I would get a half decent surf again in the morning. In the end though I decided I have under 3 weeks left before thinking about heading back to Queensland, and I keep being told the surf south of Sydney is heaps better, so I went south again, although only by about half an hour until I got to 'Swansea'. Ironically I should have been in Swansea at home right now, if it wasnt for the change of plans!
I ended up one of the beaches there, and was surprised to see it was actually a half decent 2ft and breaking quite well at numerous places along the beach. Although I had to go and find a more hidden away place to sleep, I shall be back there in the morning.
