I HATE MOSQUITOES!!!! Something woke me up about 3:30am, and then I realised I had mosquitoes buzzing around my ears. I was then unable to go back to sleep due to the whining, and knowing I was being eaten alive. I had killed not one but 7 of the b******s before I could try and sleep again, by which time it was 4:45am and I was knakered thoroughly pissed off!
I woke up again at 7am as it was broad day night, and the sun was starting to warm up the car. I quickly sorted out the car, and checked the surf at the same beach as yesterday. The wind had died, but so had the surf and it was less than a foot.
Having driven over to the other car park, over looking the next beach up, it was the same story. On the plus side it was clear sky and the begging of what appeared to be a nice day.
With no surf here I decided to head south to Forster, less than an hours drive. However when I got to the main town beach it was flat there too. Instead of staying there i headed south again to the next good spot in my wave finders guide. This was a beach called 'Boomerang Beach', which is apparently a big of a smell magnet and would have some sort of a wave even if else where didn't.
On my way there I came across a Maccas, so dropped in for a Hashbrown (too early for Icecream, what a disaster!), then bought 3/4 days worth of food at Woolworths.
As I was heading out to Boomerang and it was clear I had little or no hope of getting a surf in today; the NE swell is just too small and the winds are too strong.
Just before Boomerang is 'Elizabeth beach', so I stopped to check it out. I was glad I did, it was a beautiful beach. There was also another beach called 'Shelly Beach' just over the small headland, you reached via a path through the woods. I walked round there and was shocked at how even more stunning that little beach was! The only problem was it had been invaded by flipping nudists, so I couldn't really take any good photos of it! Those blinking nudists seem to have a knack for claiming the nicest beaches..
In the end I spent most of the afternoon on Elizabeth beach in the sun, and started reading my other book. I seem to be getting right into reading with all this free time..
Later on when the sea breeze got up even stronger making it a bit cooler on the exposed beach I was on, so drove 2 minutes round to Boomarang, completely sheltered by the headland.
Again I just carried on reading my book, in a sunny patch out the wind, which I have got into really quickly. It's a fictional detective story, which I wasn't sure I would be bothered by, but actually find really absorbing..
I checked the surf continuously with a slight hope of getting a wave, but this time the wide was against me, and all the other people who have just been driving around looking for surf! If it had been low there would have been a little wave sheltered by the headland...as it was it was fully in and there wasn't.
I cooked some actually pretty decent
Spag Bol for dinner, and then found a car park for the night. HOPEFULLY I won't get another 20 or so mosquito bites tonight, and there will be something resembling a wave in the morning..
