What a day.. I am now a fully qualified, internationally recognised level 1 surf instructor.
I got up and had breakfast in time for a 9am start to our day of assessment. All morning we did theory about how to be an instructor, about techniques to help people etc. Straight after lunch in pairs we had to present a 'lesson plan' for a hypothetical situation/lesson we were given. I was paired up with Lenny and it went really well, gaining us some good feedback from the assessor, Daz.
When we had done this we had to have our own surfing ability assessed. The waves were a perfect 1-2ft and glassy which made for a really easy assessment on foam boards.
Once we had done this we each had to individually give a pretend lesson to the 'begginers', who were actually the rest of academy being assessed.
Unfortunately I was picked to do mine first out of everyone, so I didn't have the chance to watch anyone else first. Despite that Daz was impressed with what I said and the 'flow' of the talk/demonstration I gave.
By 4:30pm everyone had completed, and passed their assesment, making us all qualified instructors! I think Morgan is going to give us extra feedback tomorrow, but other than that all is finished!
To chill out, Lenny and I went and surfed a 2-3ft and glassy Mullawarra until sunset/dinner.
Other than get the videos of me from Lenny's laptop I have just chilled this evening as I am super tired. Some of the others are drinking to celebrate but I feel pretty warn down so I'm going to try and get an early night. Plus the festival is this weekend so I am sure to drink myself silly then anyway..
