What another crazy day! Today we had the first lot of our assessment. Got up at 7am with a really bad back, and was freaking out that I wouldn't be able to do the ocean mission.
We met the assessor at 8am and started what turned out to be a ridiculous amount of theory/paper work. 8am till 4pm was just paper work and the practical 'advanced resuscitation' stuff. It was really interesting doing CPR etc on the dummy but by about 2pm theory was really starting to drag.
At 4pm the majorly of the paper work was over and done with, so we all went down the beach with our boards for the ocean mission. By some miracle my back didn't really hurt by then and I did surprisingly well, coming 3rd over all (behind 2 qualified instructors..). We also learnt a couple of extra board saving techniques, which hopefully I won't ever need, but great to learn all the same.
We finished the remaining paper work by 5:45pm with everyone passing both parts of the course, just in time for dinner. Then out of the blue Dan decided he was going to drive up to Byron to finish his first tour as he had missed the bus.
There is a boat party leaving Byron 10am Saturday morning so Lenny, Lasse, Dan and I got bargain tickets from Kev (the boss of Spot X) to go! It's going to be absolutely wild as all the main Spot X employees are meeting us there, I cannot wait!
Also as we are all in Byron tonight we are joining in on Dans tour group, partying tonight at one of the clubs there. Having not been to Byron at all yet (and having heard all the stories) I can't wait to check it out.
It should be a mental weekend!
I Havnt been on WiFi to talk to the family and check in for a couple of days (which I feel a bit guilty about) so hopefully mum isn't getting too worried.
Hopefully I will get some good photos this weekend to show them what I have been up to..
When we eventually arrived in Byron, after a horrible 3 hour drive up from Spot X in torrential rain and a lot of surface water, we all managed to book into the Nomads hostel.
Dan had a different room as it was sorted by Mojo, but as Lasse, Lenny and I were sorting out stuff and introducing ourselves the weird eat thing happened - one of the girls on Dans tour was put in our room. After a bit of chatting it turns out she lives in Charfield, right next to Renishaw, and goes to the pub where I used to go with work for a drink at lunch time etc! It's such a small world, even on the otherside of the planet...
