So this morning, my last full day of Academy (!), our lesson was at 7am. I got up at half 6 after a pretty bad nights sleep and after breakfast etc we went off to Mulawarra.
When we first got there the surf was awful - 1-2ft max, with Rips going through any of the surfable peaks. As the tide dropped out it eventually became pretty clean in the southern corner, where I have surfed a lot recently as there has been no swell and rubbish winds. No matter what the surf did, it didn't make a difference - I was in the worst mood I have been in since I left home, and I had a really crap surf...perfect.
As the weather was so nice I didn't get out the sea and sulk, I just kept out of the way of everyone else and bobbed around outback.
We all got back to camp for lunch, having surfed for the whole morning, so for my group about 3 hours+.
After lunch I was considering going back over to Mulawarra to see if the surf had picked up, to find it had gone onshore and the surf was even worse. Instead I joined in on a groups 'expression session', where they just laze around on the beach playing volley ball, and can go free surfing.
Me, Dan, Ross, Dave and Charlie all ended up out there on big blue foam boards in the choppy low tide rubbish surf...but all had an absolutely great time! Some of the photos were really funny, which I managed to get for free from one of the camps photogs.
By the time I got cold surfing in boardies and had a shower it was about 3pm. Most of the academy had gone to Coffs Harbour shopping, but some of the guys stayed. In the end I went skate/long boarding with Joja and Lasse which was brilliant fun! Although it was the first time I had done it, so I was completely useless, I had a really good time.
Eventually it was dinner and afterwards we played some s*** head and chilled out. I then tried to Skype Mum, which went terribly, and Unfortunately I think it could be due to the NetBook, which is proving a bit of a nightmare. After an hour we gave up, I watched some of a Barcelona match on TV, now I'm in bed exhausted.
My final ever academy lesson is at 7am tomorrow, so I have the joys of another early wake up call. I then have my first shift training for Grommie work at 4pm..
It feels so strange that the academy is now all but over. This place does weird things for your time perception - days and time seem to go so slowly, yet 2 months have absolutely flown by, and I can't believe it's over. A large proportion of what I saved up my money for and based my trip around is now over. From here on I am really travelling and doing whatever comes a long. Although I'm not leaving camp, everything is about to change..
