HUAIROU, Beijing Province:
On Sunday we woke up in our hotel, still full from the dinner last night! We were being met by Miss Cao in the morning at 7.20 to take us down to breakfast in the school.
She arrived, looking very tired! She took us to the school, giving us a mini tour as we walked through the campus to the school canteen. We ate as much as we could (it wasn't exactly tasty, and I was still really full!) and found our way to the staff room where we were told to 'rest' and were left in the office.
Eventually we were introduced to Lily and she gave us a tour of the school. It's not massive, but it is a nice size. It's got a huge sports hall/gym which is fairly new, and the school does seem pretty good.
We were given our timetables - I'm teaching grade 1, which are the students who are new to the school I think. I have 12 classes altogether, which I will only see once a week. There will be 50 students in each class!!! They say my students will be aged 15-16, which isn't tooo bad.
The Dean's assistant told us that we only needed to be at the school when we had classes, we don't have to be in for any core hours at all! Which is pretty cool coz I have a lot of spare time! In fact, a bit worried about how I'm gonna fill it!
We left the office at about 11.30am, with the rest of the day free. We went for a wander round the district, trying to look for a bar for later... no such luck!
At about midnight we had a knock on the door - it was Miss Cao! She was coming to let us know about the opening ceremony on Monday morning, and we organised meeting Lily at the school gates at 8.15am...
