HUAIROU, Beijing Province:
Only one class today, which is normally my favourite day - and I'd modified my lesson plan, to make it (hopefully) much more interesting & interactive for the students.
Unfortunately,. just as the bell went for the beginning of my class - an old man (I'm assuming he was a teacher!) came into the classroom.
This isn't unusual, so I waited for him to grab whatever he'd forgotten and scarper - as they normally do, but he picked up a stool and sat at the back by some students! He didn't even smile at me, or explain what he was doing (I wouldn't've understood, but it would've been nice for a vague attempt!), he just sat there waiting expectantly for me to start the lesson!
So I went a bit wobbly, but started the class anyway, trying not to look nervous! The class actually went fine, Class 3 is one of my better classes, so it was quite lucky I was being observed today. It put me off when he started taking photos though! With a flash! I'm going to look terrible in those photos - like a deer in the headlights!
It made me a bit worried though, I'm sure it's standard procedure to observe lessons randomly - and it's stated in our contracts that they may observe our classes unanounced (not that our contracts seem to hold much weight around here!), but it was still very nerve-wracking. Made me panic that maybe the students were complaining about my lessons or something!
