HUAIROU, Beijing Province:
Got up early and dressed up (put on make-up, as requested by Connie!!) for the Korean competition: "Sentence Bee and Love Actually".
I was so nervous about having to be the host, especially after getting there and Connie telling me she'd changed all the bits I'd written before! Had to quickly scribble down what she wanted me to say, and when it did start she kept rambling on in Korean and then looking at me expectantly - me not knowing a word of what she'd just said to everyone!
The morning went fairly quickly though, I had to give out stickers to the Elementary and Pre-Intermediate classes if they managed to correctly translate sentences from Korean into English. I felt quite proud of my students when they got ones right!
John won in the E. competition, and Coca won in the P.I. one, was pleased with that! The showing of Love Actually was hilarious, I especially enjoyed their interpretation of the scene where Hugh Grant does a dance in No. 10 to Girls Aloud!
Andrew and Sarah had to grade the Intermediate students on their performance of certain scenes - quite a difficult task I think, so they were quite annoyed when Connie completely disregarded their scores for the final prize giving!
After the competition I said goodbye to all my Korean students. Got a hug from Anthonio and Minji, and had a little chat with John. So sweet! I will miss them a lot, just maybe not teaching them so early on a Saturday morning!
The three of us (Sarah, Andrew & me) went to Woman Love for lunch, then was picked up by Emily from our flat. She took us to Hong Lou Temple - more of a mountain with lots of pagodas, but the views were lovely; it was a really cool afternoon.
In the evening we went to Disco 9. Met up with Yang Lu Jing (a guy we met a couple of weeks ago who graduated from our school a few years back!) and Sophie, who took us to a KTV room where we met even more of her friends!
