HUAIROU, Beijing Province:
Back to school, working from the textbook, as I've finally been given one now!
This unit is called 'Cyberspace', and the Culture Corner I've been asked to teach is a Fact File about New Zealand - what??? It's got absolutely nothing to do with technology, or the internet or anything! hmm
All three classes went pretty well actually, especially as I'm not finding this topic that interesting. Saving the New Zealand lesson til next week, doing websites and opinions of the net this week so it's at least vaguely relevant!
Class 11 always make me laugh though. There's this one student (English name = Pierre) and he talks constantly throughout my lessons, but coz he's got such a cheeky grin & annoying charm, he totally gets away with it! More so than some of the ones with huge attitude problems anyway, but I still try to tell him off sometimes! (and he'll just grin at me until I give up)
Anyways, this lesson was no different, he's just chatting away, completely oblivious to me trying to get his attention to ask him to stop talking over me! So someone shoved him to get his attention, and he stood up (all my students stand up when I ask them to answer a question), and everyone laughed at him, because there's no question for him to answer. So he laughed and went to sit back down, completely missing the chair and disappearing into a little heap on the floor!
I tried desperately not to laugh, and obviously checked he was OK when he reappeared, but two seconds later, and I have no idea how - but at the opposite end of the classroom, one of the students' books just went flying from his desk, and the whole class starting laughing and I burst into a massive giggling fit... Not easy to teach the word 'encyclopaedia' when you can't stop laughing!
