BEIJING CITY & HUAIROU, Beijing Province:
Today we went to Tian'anmen Square - which wasn't really what I was expecting, but it was a good visit. I was expecting it to be a bit more sombre... but I don't think the Chinese give any acknowledgment to the history of the place.
After the Square we went to Ya Show market - I bought a dress! In the Sanlitun shopping area there was a 'Wishing Tree' - where people could attach their wishes for Golden Week (written on 'leaves') to the tree.
Kirsty, Pete, Claire & Emma wanted to come to Huairou to see the Great Wall and experience the wonders of Disco 9, so about 6pm we met up at the bus station.
It was the busiest I've ever seen it, but the queue went down fairly quickly, and although it was a bit of a manic few minutes, we got seats on the quick bus and were in Huairou within an hour.
Took them all to my flat, and then we all got ready to go out. Showed them Mini Mini Food Street and Mini Food Street, which they were very impressed about! While we were at Mini Food Street we were joined by Marcus and some of his friends.
After they'd been sat there for about half an hour, Marcus suddenly shouted 'milk!' and pulled out a bottle of milk from his jacket... Everyone laughed at him, including all his Chinese friends, which means he is just weird - it's not a Chinese thing!
Michael and Urs were at Disco 9 when we arrived - they're going back home at the weekend, so that was a bit strange, thinking I'll never see them again! Uli's got another week, so maybe we'll see him before he leaves.
Unfortunately we missed the show - was a bit gutted about that coz I wanted to show the Shenyang lot Axu! It was a really good night though - they all loved Disco 9! (unsurprisingly!)
