HUAIROU, Beijing Province:
Ahh Mondays...
My first class (Class 12 - my least able group) went OK, but they were really hard to keep under control. I wanted to finish off my storytelling series of lessons with a game of Consequences, then get them to write a story...
But it took 45 minutes to play just one game of Consequences!! Getting them to just pass the paper on was a nightmare... had to show every single student about three times which way to pass their paper!!!
My second class was cancelled because they were doing a P.E. exam (this I learn half an hour into my second class, I did wonder why no-one had shown up!), and my last class once again took 45 minutes for one game of consequences...
Had a smoothie and some bread for dinner - trying to keep to our budget!
Spoke to Miss Cao today, and we are going to get reimbursed for the electricity bill. She's also trying to sort out our mandarin lessons, although at this rate I think our first lesson will be in our last week in Huairou! (I wouldn't be surprised...)
Also spoke to her about Sarah's idea - we want to organise an 'English Corner' for once a week, where the students can come and practise speaking English. Thought it'd be good, as we'd be able to really help those who actually want to learn!
In the evening we designed a poster for it, full of Englishy goodness (the English football team, the flag, fish & chips, a soldier outside Buckingham Palace and red telephone boxes!) I hope we can get it sorted, think it'll be a really cool!
