Well the last week has been real hectic for us but the last 48 hours Mel and I have had less sleep than a junior doctor working for the NHS!!!!
I am sat writing this blog from our new apartment/flat and we are pleased with our choice. As usual Mel and I were organised and spent the early part of the week getting things in order ready for the move on Friday. It was an early start and we got all our things packed into the car for our 30 second drive to the new house around the corner from where we had called home for the last 11 months and 3 weeks.
We set about cleaning the new place and unpacking what we had, before breaking for lunch and refreshment. Next stop was the storage warehouse at Albany to retrieve some of our belongings and the most important thing,Mel's dressing gown!!!!
We met our contact at the warehouse and they priced open our crate,it creaked like an old sailing boat as the nails worked loose and eventually our treasure was revealed. As they unloaded our boxes there seemed to be more than we remembered bringing. We went through it box by box and picked out a few things to make the new place like home. I am not sure what we were thinking but we had even packed plastic spoons, when I asked Mel why we had them, her reply was "they were only 49p from Asda so I bought them."
It took us a few hours to work our way through but eventually we had a car full of goodies to take home. Mel's OCD kicked in and she had to have things on an angle instead of straight and things were too cluttered but after a full on day we finally sat down to relax around 10.30pm very contented.
It was 6am Saturday morning and I was sat putting NZ plugs onto our UK appliances before I set off to work and leave Mel to take care of domestic chores. It was such a hot day in the city and I was taking in gallons of water walking around. Mel had the Sky TV man in (priorities) then she went off to do the shopping and visit the DIY store. This turned out to be a bad move as someone ran into the car but luckily they left their details so we can get it fixed as it is just a scratch. I got home and was impressed with how much Mel had got done and we were all sorted.
We had a lie in till 8am on Sunday morning before taking care of bills and paperwork while having breakfast on our patio in the sunshine. The only other big issue we had to address was the TV as the one in the house was way too small,so it was off to the mall to buy one. We got a great deal and got extra discount because Mel worked for the health board so it was all good. It was left over pizza for lunch followed by the World Series for me while Mel went into Devonport to look around the shops and take care of one or two things.
Once she returned it was off to another performance of GALS (Gay and Lesbian Choir) which a friend of ours performs in and it turned out to be excellent especially as they sang "on Ilkley Moor bah' tat" which was cool!!!!
I did have a bit of a giggling fit as one of the women in the choir looked like our kid which meant I couldn't look at them without nearly wetting myself!!!!
We did send out our new address so it should have arrived in your inbox last week. Looking forward to having people to stay in the New Year.
Lots of Love
M & M
