After what must have read like a depressing blog we have had a good few days, basically because it has been the weekend and thanks to those who sent messages to cheer us up we appreciate it.
Saturday 7th February 2009
I was up early to await the arrival of the car dealer to sort out our car and luckily once we fitted a new battery things seemed to be OK which pleased us.We had a great afternoon with Steve (Dad's cousin)and his family at the house they came across and we sat and chatted for a couple of hours and it was nice to have some visitors to the house!!
As we had been in most of the day we took the ferry into the City to check out the Chinese Lantern Festival (see pics) it was in Albert Park and there were food stalls and displays including samurai and martial arts which was cool to watch. The highlight of the evening was all the paper lanterns all around the park and also hanging in the trees. The evening was so warm and calm so we stopped for a drink at the Masonic Tavern in Devomport and watched the boats bobbing up and down with the pastel red sky in the background,it was perfect but we knew it meant that tomorrow would be even hotter.
Sunday 8th February 2009
We had an early start and had to be organised so we could get on the road to get to Pukekohe (see pics) for the bike race meet. The weather had dealt no surprises today and the mercury was reading 30 degrees so it was air con all the way.The action had just started when we arrived and we founda nice shady spot in the grandstand to watch the action from. All the bikes racing were from the 30's to the 70's and they were loud. The races were short but the place was buzzing and you had access to the pit lane to check out the bikes which was cool. For a couple of races we watched from the pit lane so were right on top of the action as the bikes sped past.
The sun today was so hot we couldn't stay out too long before retreating back to the grandstand for sunscreen top up,refreshments and food,it was nice to see the bikes in action and the smells of the bikes too.We also met up with Steve and Di for a chat and we are hoping when Steve goes back to racing next year we can go and watch him.
Quite a few people had camped and it was like a mini festival with motorbikes everywhere. The whole day was excellent and there was only one crash luckily they were alright.Even the sidecars were good fun to watch as they whizzed around as they clung to the car moving their weight around to keep it on the track.
We will be in touch again once we have any news to report which fingers crossed will be good news
Lots of Love
