Friday 26th December 2008 (Boxing Day)
We awoke today feeling a little fragile after a little over indulgence yesterday and it was taking it's toll on us both.We spent the day rehydrating and watching TV like you do on Boxing Day.
Saturday 27th December 2008
Yesterday we vowed to be up early and heading North for the day,but it seemed like the rest of Auckland had the same idea and 25km up the road the traffic came to a standstill and there we sat for the next hour or so crawling along. On the good run the ride to Whangerei should have taken 2 1/2 hours.it came on the radio that there were traffic jams so at the first opportunity we about turned and headed back to the city.
After a trawl around a few shops to see all the nonsense they were trying to flog it was back to the house, the mailman had been and we noticed a huge envelope for Mel we knew this because they had used every inch of the packaging to write her name!!!
Mel ripped it open and it appeared to be a job offer from an earlier interview, that she didn't even know about so the mystery will have to wait till the New Year to be sorted out..
Sunday 28th December 2008
Not knowing what to do today it took us a while to come up with a plan.We discussed a few ideas for New Year's Eve but could not come up with a plan of action so it will take a bit more planning before we have something set.The conversation carried onto the ferry as we made our way to the city for lunch at the viaduct basin which was built in 2000 for the America's Cup.
It was a super hot day today and I made sure my hat was on and my sun screen was applied to avoid a repeat of the sunburn I got on Xmas Day.
We tucked into a lovely lunch wihth the sun shining and luckily we were under a brolley to stay out of the sun,the time flew by as we sat chatting trying to sort out a few things for next week, there was a brief bit of drama when a tour boat crashed into a lovely old schooner which got a cheer from the tourists.. Before we finished up our drinks I was hand feeding a sparrow which hovered as it munched the chip between by fingers.
The whole quayside was heaving as a cruiseship had docked and people had spilled onto the streets wanting to spend their money, the vessel was massive and it had a swimming pool and even a climbing wall on the top deck!!!
We will be in touch to let you know our New Year plans and how it turns out...
Lots of Love
M & M
