Kia Ora
Wednesday 12 November 2008
One thing I will say is that since we arrived our feet don't seem to have touched the ground, what it has meant is that by around 9.30pm we have been shattered.Spent the morning around the house taking care of a few jobs before heading across the harbour to the Ferry Building. The sun was beating down and luckily we got a ride to the ferry.
We collected our car today and Mel was happy when she found out that it was a small automatic car,the next challenge of the day came when we had to meet the recruitment guy,it meant a short hop on the motorway but we found it surprisingly easily. We picked his brains and got some useful advice which will help us along the way,by the time we finished we had to endure rush hour over the harbour bridge back to Devonport but to be honest the view from the bridge was so nice it didn't matter that we were stop start for a few minutes.

News came through this morning that Mel might be in a better position to get work continuing what she did in the UK.
We took a ride to Takapuna just 20minutes away to visit the mall and do a "big" shop at Foodtown,Mel's new favourite!!!
The mall wasn't too much to write home about, but I managed to find an interview outfit.Mel drove us back from Takapuna to get used to the car and for the first 10 minutes everytime we turned left or right the windscreen wipers came on which we both found funny till eventually she remembered that the stem was on the right hand side not the left!!!
We unloaded and set off for Long Bay about 20 minutes north of the city, where we had a great couple of hours on the beach relaxing and enjoying the weather as rain is forecast for Friday.

Well the weather people here are as bad as home, the rain didn't arrive (not that we are complaining) so after a morning sending out contact details to people we made the most of the afternoon. We jumped in our little car and headed up to Orewa,it is only a 40 minute drive and the beach here is 2 miles long and as with everywhere else nearly empty. We are going through sunscreen rapidly and there never seems to be a cloud in the sky when the sun is out. As you can see from the photos we sampled an ice cream each which melted so quickly we had to more or less eat it in one go!!!
We drove around a few of the other bays up the coast through Matakatia Bay to Shakespear National Park jsut gazing out across the water back to the city almost 30km away in the distance. The drive back didn't take long down SH1 right back to Devonport, unfortunately we haven't found how to control the air con and only haveone setting called blow your eyebrows off your face, but at least we don't get hot in the car!!
It was snapper for dinner (another first for Mel) before a quick freshen up and a walk to the local for a few swifties in the sunshine. This is the weird thing you guys are tucked up in bed as I write this and we are going to the pub,it's what Friday nights were made for.
Hope you all have a great weekend, will be in touch again with more stories.
Lots of Love
M & M
