Kia Ora guys
It was Easter Monday so Mel was off for the day, because of the car trouble the first job this morning was oil for the car.It turned out we needed a litre and the car garage took care of it for us.Because the shops were shut yesterday it meant that we had to do our grocey shopping today,it reminded me of Xmas Eve at home as the place was packed with people,it is amazing what one day of shop closure does!!!!
Tuesday wasn't too eventful ,I put the finishing touches to the plan of things to do when Martin arrives and also thought about what to do with Andy when he gets here on Saturday. The weather was a typical Auckland day and it went from cold and wet to 21 degrees in the space of 90 minutes, which meant the jeans I had gone out in were making me way too hot now but luckily I wasn't far from home and quickly changed into my shorts.
We had a great walk around town and up North Head which gave us fantastic views of the city all lit up,the Sky Tower looked really cool illuminated in red,the wind was blowing in off the sea and Rangitoto cast a silhouette with the moon high in the sky.
The next few days passed by quickly and Friday was upon us,as well as laundry I graduated to ironing today which surprised Mel when she got home but what I didn't tell her is how long it took me,all I can say is by the time I had finished I needed a sit down.
Around 6 months ago back in the UK we met Andy at a family BBQ and he told us of his plans to come to NZ,so we offered to show him around when he got here, and today was that day.We collected him from his hosteldrove off to Mt Eden so he could get some good views of the city and the harbour,we spent the next few hours showing him the sights of Auckland and giving him some ideas for the next leg of his trip.
After dropping the car off we headed into the city for a drink and something to eat,on the ferry across we got to see a penguin that popped up right in front of the boat ,but rapidly dived again as the boat went straight over the top of it.We all had a great day and Mel and I enjoyed being tour guides and showing off our new home to Andy.We are all going to meet up again in a few weeks when our friend,Martin arrived from the UK so we can hone our tour guide skills on him too!!!!
We had done a bit of walking and when we stepped off the ferry back in Devonport we did something that we hadn't done since we arrived here, we jumped on the bus to get back to the house rather than take the 20 minute walk, but I have to admit that it was $3.20 well spent!!!!
As soon as dawn broke we were up which for a Sunday was really frustrating but it meant we had a full day ahead of us.After yesterday's busy day we decided to take things slower and I cleaned the car while Mel caught up on some reading,as she doesn't get as much time to read now she is busy with work.We did have a walk into Devonport later in the afternoon and stopped for coffee and a huge slice of carrot cake which we shared and it was delicious,by the time we set off back there was drizzle in the air and we cut our walk short to avoid getting wet which meant that not all the carrot cake got burnt off!!!
As I am writing this at 8.50pm we have just had the heavens open on us and the rain is bouncing about a foot off the driveway,it has forecast bad weather for the next few days so I have a feeling wherever I go I will have my umbrella with me...
Lots of Love
