I didn't sleep a wink on Sunday night and I even contemplated getting up at 4.30am but managed to hold back until 6am. Today was my first day back in the workplace for nearly 3 years and I was ready for it, so much so that I wasn't nervous at all. It didn't take long for Mel and I to drop into our old routine which sees me showering then staying out of the way while Mel gets ready.
At 7.30am I jumped onto the bike and set off for the city,it was a lovely morning and the ride was excellent, 25 minutes later I was in the underground car park and wondering where to go. I asked a guy for directions and he turned out to be another new starter too so we walked to the reception area together. The rest of the day became a blur as we ran through health and safety briefings and uniform fitting.
To be honest when they called the end of the day at 5.30pm my head was fit to burst, but my biggest problem was how to get my black bin liner full of uniform back home. I called Mel and she made a detour through the city so I could load everything into the car as it would have been impossible to get it all home on the bike.
By the time we got sorted out it was nearly 9pm and I was knackered,we just had time for a quick glass of wine before going to bed,and as soon as my head hit the pillow I was asleep.
Another restless night so just after 6am I was in the shower,as I put more lights on Mel squinted at me from under the covers before getting up. Mel left 20 minutes befroe me and as I joined the motorway weaving my way through the traffic I passed Mel. My day was another heavy one in the classroom with lots of information to take in. I was losing concentration just as we went out on the streets for a look around,it was dark as I rode home.
By the end of day three I felt like I was drowning in legislation and rules, I did not realise how much you need to know to be a traffic warden but it was sinking in which was good as we have an exam to sit next Monday that we need to pass to progress to the next stage. My ride home was in the sunshine and as I rode home I was running the phonetic alphabet through my head.
Thursday saw us out on the streets practising our radio techniques, which was good fun. the fog was so thick on Friday that neither the city or the bridge were visible and as I rode into the fog it deposited all its wetness onto me and made it difficult to see. After another morning of information overload we got to go out and see a car being towed which all happened in the blink of an eye. The week had gone so quickly and I was ready for the weekend and felt like I had earned this one.
Mel got home and we chatted as we walked into "Devo" for fish and chips on the beach. We sat and enjoyed them as it got dark and watching the boats.Tomorrow I would be 35.
My body would not let me sleep so I was up early and flicked the kettle on, Mel emerged a few minutes later wanting to know why I was up so early. Mel made the tea and coffee then we sat down as I opened my birthday cards and this year I had a decent haul of eight.
Mel and I never buy cards for each other but she handed me a plastic bag which I opened up. Inside there was a cool Triumph bike t-shirt which was really nice and I quickly decided I would wear it when we went out later that evening. It was a gorgeous day so we took the bike out for a ride east to Bucklands Beach for lunch at the beach house cafe. After a delicious lunch we rode to St Heliers for a look around and it was warm so I rode with my jacket open to let the cool breeze in.
By the time we got back home it was a quick change and then we walked to town to catch the ferry to the city. We had a couple of drinks before heading to the thai restaurant for our meal. Luckily we had booked as the place was busy. The menu sounded delicious and it took us a while to pick what we wanted. The food was a sgood as it sounded and we tucked into prawns and scallops for starters followed by pork and lamb penang for our main courses. It was a fantastic evening and we rode the ferry home full up and contented.
Well the birthday was over and we were back to routine stuff today, starting with the shopping.Mel and I cooked a Sunday lunch then unfortunately I had to sit down and put in a couple of hours studying ready for the test tomorrow and Mel tested me on things I needed to know and I didn't do too badly. We took a break in the evening and took a walk into town for a coffee.then it was back home to prepare for work on Monday.
I will let you know how the test goes so watch this space.
Lots of Love
