Hello Hello Hello
Saturday 14th February (Valentines Day)
While packing up to leave the cottage I kept my eye on the rugby league beaming in from the UK,this will be the second and last time we will have to move out and even though we knew it was coming it was still a pain in the bum!!!
It was also raining heavy and just how we thought the NZ summer would be so I ended up like a drowned rat while filling the car up with our things. We had 3 hours to kill before we could check in so we headed off to a couple of bike shops to try some helmets,I am having problems getting one that fits my head without busting my hearing aids although I think I have it down to two.Mel proved more problematic as she wouldn't put the helmet on without freaking out,so we had to go down the open face road for her to keep her claustrophobia at bay!!!
Our arrival at the motel didn't start too well when the TV didn't work and the internet was poor, after a little sign language and slow talking (the owners are Chinese) we eventually thought we had things sorted.
It got to 7pm before we even realised that it was Valentines Day but to be honest neither of us were bothered.
Sunday 15th February
Our first night in the motel over only 15 more to go,good news is the bed was comfy and we both slept well.We ended up in reception and having to swap rooms as the TV and internet had got no better, but we ended up with a much nicer room so we were pleased.
Mel had come up with a plan to visit Savage Memorial Park on Tamaki Drive,it turned out to be a good call as we got great views of the City and the harbour but we could also see Devonport and wished we were back there!!!
The park was named after a past Prime Minister of NZ,Michael Joseph Savage, but originally the land had been owned by the Maori and it was given back to them in 1994 after a big legal fight and millions of dollars in fees.We had a great walk up One Tree Hill and got more great views of the city from a different angle, the bit that made me laugh was when Mel jumped thinking a cow was running behind her and it was a jogger!!!
Lots of Love
