Happy New Year everyone, hope 2009 will be a cracker for all of you.
Thursday 1st January 2009
Can I just start by saying that if someone had said to us we would be living on the other side of the planet by Xmas I would have laughed at them, but here we are and enjoying it immensely,so here is to 2009 and all the opportunities it will offer.
I had to write a little bit of something because the day was a total write off and after chatting with my Mum and Dad we slept!!!!!
Friday 2nd January 2009
The day was pretty much a standard day with a bit of grocery shopping but we did have to clean down the cottage ready for our departure tomorrow for a week.It was so humid today and by the time I finished the hoovering i was dripping and ready for a shower.
We waited for it to cool off and were just about to go for a walk into town with a stop at the "patriot" for a beer when David our landlord knocked on the door and asked if we wanted to go out fishing on his boat so we jumped at the chance and said "YES" so before we knew it we were on their boat with lifejaclets on and pushing away from the pontoon.
The boat really shifted and we flew out into Waitemata Harbour with the bridge on our left and the city on the right, our destination was just out near Rangitoto where we anchored near a couple of charter fishing boats.David chopped up the squid and we baited up the lines and we dropped them in.The harbour isn't very deep and it was only 11 metres to the bottom where we had anchored. The fish were biting but we couldn't hook one and Mel got distracted when Sue opened the wine!!!
I soldiered on but fishing was proving a littlemore difficult than I had imagined. It was really calm on the water and we just bobbed around watching the daytime fade and dusk creeping in, which put the city into a real nice silhouette with North Head on one side and Mt Victoria on the other. We left it as long as we could before heading back in before it got dark.Unfortunately the fish had a good feed but I am sure we will be back for another crack at them,so it's a good job we had eaten our dinner before we left otherwise we would have gone hungry.
Back at the boatyard we just had to spray the boat down and clean it up before leaving and even though we didn't catch anything it was fantastic and we had a great time,so a big thanks to Sue and David for their hospitality again.
Lots of Love
M & M
