Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
As we have had a nice bit of snow over the past week and I am feeling pretty confident on my board, I thought it'd be rude to come all of this way without having a weeks skiing...
It was an early start I headed into town to hire skis and I was queuing for the bus to Coronet by 8:05. Sam was catching the bus from the Kingsgate Hotel as normal and I was meeting her there. I got to Coronet by 9:20 only to be met by Sam, who had already got a run in for the morning! Anyway we headed up to the top and I tested my ski legs - a little rusty, but with a bit of practice I'm sure we'll get there!
The snow wasn't quite as good as yesterday but there was still a nice covering to work with. Today we had also decided to bring our camera's up to Coronet so that we could climb to the top and take some pictures. But first the skiing... we got a few really nice runs in before heading down to collect our rucksacks.
Well it was time for a little more filming to be done! We took the camera to the top of the Coronet Express and Sam grabbed the camera and filmed me coming down the run... On the top bit I skied past her, and apparently this wasn't right.. so down to the bottom and up again before starting again! Anyway we got it right this time, and we were happy filming all the way down the M1 run, and short of cutting up a few snowboarders and nearly being run over by a runaway french woman(?!?!) I made it to the bottom without a scratch...
Sam's turn, she had a really nice run down, making loads of turns and getting a fair bit of speed up... She's getting very confident on those skis now... even to the point where she's actually told me that I was going a little slow for her!
Whilst we had the camera out we also thought that we would try a little bit of Terrain Park... We got to the top of this run where they have 5 rails set out and a big jump at the end... Sam insisted that she wanted to do the rail, I couldn't stop her!! Luckily she pulled out before getting to it... I say luckily because I didn't pull out! Well it was my first experience of a rail, and man they're slippery b*****s! See I've been watching people do it and they make it look easy.. IT'S NOT!! I skied up to the kicker for the rail and up onto the rail... next thing I knew my skis were in a heap under me and I had landed flat on my face! If it's any consolation Sam said I made it to the end of the rail (completely out of control) before loosing it... oh well!
Anyway, after all the filming had been done we grabbed a late lunch as it was around 3pm now. After lunch as we had brought all the cameras with us we headed to the top of the Express chair and took our skis off to hike to the top of the mountain...
It was quite a steap climb and some areas of the safety rail were missing which I don't think helped Sam's Ascent, but we both got up the puffing and panting, and we were greated by one of the best views we've seen so far! We've put a load of the pictures in our album... have a look!
Well by the time we had taken the pictures and climbed back down it was getting to 4:15 and the last bus leaves at 4:30, so we put our skis on and headed down the hill...
We got back to the Flat and put some more 24 on as we had a few hours to kill before heading to Steak Night!! at Brazz.
We headed to Brazz for 8pm and sat down with a beer and a cocktail. We made our orders T-Bone for me, Eye Fillet for Sam... Steak night at Brazz - buy one get one free!
After having the best steak in Queenstown! and a few more drinks - all for the sum of $30(10 pounds!!) each we headed back.
