Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
Today was more of a bits and pieces day. We had to move hotels so we couldn't go skiing or plan anything in particular. We had to be out of our beloved Novotel Gardens by 11. Our new hotel 'Copthorne Lake Front resort' is only actually 5 mins up the road from Novotel but because of all our stuff, we needed a cab to get us there (those of you who know me well (Sam that is!), will know I don't exactly travel light!!!!). Normally this would be fairly simple, but there was a parade going through town today as part of the winter festival so half the roads in town were closed. This meant a lovely little English porter had to wheel all of our stuff half way up the hill to the Copthorne on a trolley just so that we could find a place to meet our cab!!!
Anyway, we finally made it to the Copthorne which looks very nice from the outside, but it is a bit strange because the lobby and reception are on the top floor and all the rooms are built into the hill below it. We were quite lucky because we got there just before 12, but our room was already ready. Our porter showed us to a lovely room overlooking the lake. The only problem was we had two small double beds, rather than the huge queen bed we had been promised. So... I sent poor Stu back upstairs to reception to see if there was any chance we could get a queen room. The front desk were very accomodating and said we could have a queen room, we would just have to wait for one to be made up. So... we had to cart our stuff all the way back up to the lobby, wait half an hour, and then cart it all back down to our new room. Stu said he had never thought of me as being high maintenance until this morning!!!!!
Anyway, our new room is beautiful. It has a humongous great bed, a gorgeous view of the lake and loads of room for Sam's clothes! We are both very happy - think we've made pretty good decisions accomodation wise although I think we are going to have to make the most of this next week because we deffinately need to go budget from here on in!!!
After we had moved in, we went for a wander round town to find out about some of the excursions and then we thought we would take a walk up to Fernhill (kind of a suburb of Queenstown) to take a look at the bedsit we are viewing on Monday... We just thought we would be nosey and see what it looks like from the outside and how far away it is. One thing we did learn is that Fernhill definatelly lives up to its name! We spent most of the afternoon trapesing up hills and down again!!! we finally found our bedsit, pearched on the very top road of Fernhill!!!! Great views though... so we are going to have a look on Monday and then give it some serious thought.
After all that walking we headed back to the Copthorne for a well deserved hot tub (it was sooo nice! :) ) before dinner. Then we headed into town for an Indian.
