Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
Skiing again today!! We decided to go back up to the Remarkables again, rather than Coronet Peak, as we've heard that Coronet Peak has been chaos during the school holidays and they don't have that much snow at the moment. The kids go back to school tomorrow so I think we might try Coronet Peak next week.
I caught the early bus with Stu this morning and we were up the mountain by 9:30. The slopes were so quiet - we practically had the first few runs to ourselves...it was so nice!! So good to get away from the crowds and be able to go wherever you wanted to. As usual we started of on a couple of the easier runs and then started to hone our skills on some of the steeper runs.
We stopped for some lunch at 12 (Cookie time!!!! They do the best cookies out here!) and then headed back out again for the afternoon. I was feeling quite confident with my skiing so Stu suggested we head up the Shadow Chair to give one of the blue runs up there a go. Off we went - it was quite exciting seeing another side of the mountain since we've been skiing the same runs for a while now. The blue run we took was quite steep in places but we made it down ok - the only problem was, once you got past the steeper half of the run, the second half was very narrow and really not very steep...it was like a little footpath and not really much fun to ski. Once we got to the bottom we decided to head back up the main chair towards the wider runs - I think we'll head back up the Shadow Chair when we're ready to tackle the black runs as there are plenty of those up there, it's just the blue run is a bit of a token run!
We had time to do a couple more runs before we raced down to catch the 2:30 shuttle home. We had a roast dinner booked at Brazz at 6 this evening and we wanted to leave in plenty of time as it takes just over an hour to get back from the Remarkables and we didn't want to have to run around like headless chickens!!
We got back home about 4 and had just about enough time to sit down and have a quick cuppa before we got ready for dinner. We got to Brazz at 6 and had another delicious lamb roast - we had reserved a table yesterday as we knew how popular Brazz is on a Sunday and were really pleasantly surprised when our waitress showed us to the same table we had a couple of weeks ago - right in front of the roaring fire!!! So cosy!!. We even decided to splash out on a pudding...Stu had chocolate fudge cake and I had sticky toffee pudding - yummy!!!
We rolled home just in time to watch the Sunday night movie '50 First Dates' which started at 9.
