Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
We caught the early shuttle again this morning and were up at Coronet Peak just after 9. Was a bit of a scary drive up today, it had been a really cold night and the roads were really icey. We had to stop at Arthurs Point to put some chains on the coach as the road was impassable without them! When we got to Coronet Peak, we couldn't see a hand infront of our face as the mountain was covered in a sea of clouds.
We decided to stick to the green and blue runs on one of the smaller lifts as the visability was awful.. it was still a good laugh, and there was fresh snow fall from the night before. I (Stu that is) got rather adventurous and decided to head up the main chairlift to the top of the mountain, but once I got up there I realised it wasn't such a good idea as you literally couldn't see a thing! luckily I was on skis today and as there was a break in the cloud and I found myself off piste I was able to find my way back to the bottom of the slope (after almost being bundled by a snowboarder who appeared out of nowhere, did a jump and pretty much landed on my skis!!!!!).
We caught the 2:30 bus back down as the visability never improved, and we were a little bored of the smaller runs by this point. When we got back I had come to the decision that I was going to take up snowboarding and it was time to invest in my own board! I spent the next hour or so wandering round trying to find the best deal, while Sam tried to find the best clothes sale?!? I finally found a package deal that I was happy with, and I am now the proud owner of Burton Boots, board and bindings!!
After all that shopping it was definately time for some food so we headed to Monty's for a garlic loaf and a burger.. mmm real good!!!
