Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
Well after a very icey day at Coronet Peak we decided that we would give the remarkables a go today. We woke early and I was on the 8:15 bus heading up to the Remarkables... Sam stayed at the flat for some breakfast and a little R&R, (she told me to go Phil...) and came to join me later at 11:30.
Well, couldn't have asked for a nicer day, there wasn't a cloud in the sky, the snow at the Remarkables was 10 times better than at Coronet a couple of days ago, and there was no one on the slopes... I was going to make the most this! So I strapped the board to my feet and I was off!! The Pistes were groomed and I pretty much had first tracks, sorry to all those I'm making very jelous, but it has to be done!
After stopping for an early morning half sandwich because I was starving, and a couple more runs, I met up with Sam. She'd been at home watching the end of the football, and tidying up (result!)...
Sam got her skis on and we headed back to the top of the mountain for some more runs. The slopes were still relitavely clear, so we thought we'd make the most of it before lunch... we got a couple of really nice runs in before it all went wrong...
Now you may remember, I have just brought myself a new snowboard.. all new and shiny! Well I would like to say that this was still the case...
We came down the blue to the second chairlift back to the top of the mountain, and I pulled up short to undo my back binding before getting on the chair. I hadn't been stopped more than 10 seconds when a french woman came carrearing into the back of me. Skis akimbo straight over my board, one either side of my feet, couldn't believe it!... but wait, what did she do next.. instead of saying sorry and lifting her skis of my board she started screaming "Atand! Atand!" and started jumping up and down like a performing mokey, sliding all over the place but not going anywhere... I jumped out of my bindings and lifted her skis off my board... scratches all over the front end... well lets just say she wasn't my favourite fench woman this morning!!!!
Anyway, after this little upset we were on our way again and enjoying the beautiful sunshine and some really nice skiing/boarding. Sam is now really improving with her turns, and begining to jump... and yes, she does have more successful jumps under her belt than I do at the moment, but we'll see....
I'm really enjoying the snowboarding, and kinda getting the hang of it... I need some powder though!!! The sun is gorgeous, but I think both Sam and I would agree that it was time for some more snow!
Anyway we had a wicked day on the slopes, and headed back down on the 4:30 bus... back to the flat for some more home cooked food and the next instalement of the Lord of the Rings!!
