Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
Today the plan was to catch the early shuttle up to Coronet peak, but we over slept by half an hour. Sam was a bit of a lazy bum and couldn't be bothered to get ready in a hurry so I thought I would leave her behind and head up to the slopes with my new SNOWBOARD!!! By the time I had walked to the station to get the bus my feet were hurting from my new boots, which I have been promised will mould around my feet!!! but this is proving to be a rather uncomfortable process... well worth the walk though as when I got to the slopes and strapped into my snowboard the pain was gone and I was off!! First run was a little sketchy, but after another couple of runs I was getting the feel for it. I must admit on a couple of the longer runs I did end up on my arse a few times as the board kept catching an edge, but this will soon be sorted with a little more practice!!!
Sam caught the later bus and met me up there just after 11. She had spent the morning on the internet and in the hot tub... cheeky monkey! We spent the next couple of hours strutting our stuff on the slopes! Sam's determined to sort out her parallel turns, which are decidedly rusty - might need a lesson to sort them out?!? whilst my aim is to try and tackle a board park, or half pipe maybe, with a little more practice!!?!? I'm sure Sam'll have the video camera ready for when I land on my head :) !!
We headed back reasonably early so that we could book a viewing for a bedsit we have seen advertised in Fernhill. We are now going to see that on Monday. Then we headed back to the hotel room to get ready for the opening night of the Winter Festival!! We headed to the park for about 6, to watch the opening concert and then headed to the beach to watch the fireworks. The fireworks were set off from a boat in the middle of the lake so we had a perfect view. They were pretty spectacular! although it was absolutely freezing on the beach!!!!
We wandered back via pizza hut to warm us up before our last night at Novotel :0(
