Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
Well after Sam's lesson yesterday both of us were eager to get up to the mountain so that she could practice her turns.
We headed into town to return the car and I thought that it would be a good idea to hire some skis so that I could come down the mountain and maybe help Sam out a little...
Well we were so excited about getting up to the mountain we didn't stop to check out the weather report, or wonder why there wasn't a cue at the station in town, when normally you had to wait a couple of bus loads first?!
Don't worry, we soon found out why this was the case. We got up to Coronet Peak to find the wind blowing and visability terrrible!! There was only the beginner chairlift open, and half a blue run?! Oh well, maybe it would clear up later on...
We got to the lift and were straight up the chair to the top of the green run. We came down here a couple of times, guess work getting us to the bottom on occasions, Sam was finding it quite difficult to put her turns into practice as there was also quite a lot of ice on the pistes!! not a lot of fun.
We then move onto the blue run to see if this was any better... it wasn't! Because of the lack of options it was very busy, and to make things worse there wasn't a lot of snow on it either. I'm thinking hiring Ski's wasn't the best plan today!
Well after no more than 5 runs we decided that it was time for a hot chocolate and headed to the Cafe to see if the weather would clear in a bit.
After an hour hot chocolate we headed back out, only to find that the weather hadn't improved!! We did a couple more runs and decided to get the 1o'clock bus back down the mountain... a bit of a waste of time today... although I did hear another guy behind us in the bus say "well, what a waste of $100!!" - Thank god for our Season Passes!!
When we got back to town we unloaded our stuff at the flat and headed into town for a bit of a wonder round... We had a look in a few ski shops to see if a) I could find some cheap ski boots so that I could maybe use a pair of Sam's Skis and save on rental... the best I could find were $150 (still not bad at 50 pounds) and b) so Sam could have a look at some second hand snowboards... Neither of us found anything so we headed back to our Flat for the evening.
