Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
Today we rented Winterbourne, our lovely little hire car... we started driving from Christchurch at 10:30 and finished off in Queenstown after 8.5 hrs driving at 7pm! What they call a motor way, or route 1, wasn't exactly your typical English motorway... they were usually only one lane wide, and we couldn't have seen more than 50 other cars throughout the whole journey. Our first stop off was Timaru, where we had a lunch break on the beach (Timaru is on the East coast so we managed to find ourselves a bit of sun, sea and sand). From Timaru we headed cross country through the mountains stopping to take a few scenic pictures along the way. We stopped at one of the most remote service stations we'd ever seen, and had to brave the snowy, icy roads before finally arriving at Queenstown.
Once we'd got to Queenstown it took us a while to find our hotel, but now we're here it is absolutely beautiful!! Right on Lake Wakatipu?!!?! and our room has a gorgeous view of the mountains..very happy with our first choice!!! :0)
