Sam and Stu's Kiwi Travels
Right, well, after two lazy days we decided it was time for some skiing!!!! Unfortunately, the weather didn't agree!
We got up at 9 to get the bus up to the Remarkables, looked out the window and found about a foot of snow! Only the second time we've seen it snow in Queenstown (and the first time was about 7 in the morning and it was gone an hour later). The whole town was covered in a big white blanket. The lake, the mountains and the golf course looked so pretty out our living room window. We texted NZ Ski for a snow report and found that both Coronet Peak and the Remarkables were closed. Due to the heavy snow up in the mountains, the roads were deemed impassable. We weren't too surprised as the roads up to the ski resorts are pretty much dirt tracks that run up the side of the mountains and they're barely wide enough to fit two cars, so they're pretty tretcherous on a good day!!
So it looked like we were in for another day off. We got up, pottered about for a bit, and then wandered into town to take some pictures of the snow. We did a bit of shopping (mainly camera batteries and film), put some pictures on the internet, played a few games of pool in Altitude bar, and had a wander around the lake and the boardwalk.
We stopped for a late lunch at the bakery and had a bit of a work out about where we're going to go from here - now that Stu has his job at Countryside we need to be home by October so we needed to change our flight home and all our connecting flights. We worked out that we can still have three more weeks in Queenstown, 3 weeks travelling around New Zealand, and then our last 3 weeks in Rarotonga. We worked out the dates we needed to fly and then headed to the Air New Zealand Office to change our original flight dates. All sorted - we'll be back in England on 28th September!
Once we'd finished at Air New Zealand we popped into VideoEasy to rent a film for the evening (We picked Swat in the end) and then we got a pizza from Pizza Hut on the way home because we couldn't be bothered to cook (Lazy Bums!!!!!).
