The weather was very good again today. Which combined with being National Hot Dog Day made this the perfect time to head to Coney Island.
Becky and I headed down first and got off the subway at Brighton Beach and walked along by the water to Coney Island. We strolled around the boardwalk, before going on the infamous wonder wheel. A bold choice considering I am not a fan of heights but with Becky sitting still it was a very enjoyable experience. We opted for the static cars as there is no way I could have gone on the ones that swing as you move.
Stefan joined us for lunch at Nathan’s and we used the coupons he had found to save on our hot dogs.
The sun had now come out in force which made this the perfect time to hit the beach. We chose a similar location to where I had been last time just past Coney Island where it was a lot quieter.
During our first Splosh that even Becky had joined us for, we noticed a lady talking to the birds. Becky set out for a further investigation and listened to the woman discuss with the birds how she had wanted to have born a man. As she was attracting a lot of attention it wasn’t long before the lifeguard and summoned the medics and local police to escort her off the beach. Following this incident we felt safe for a second Splosh. The beach at Coney Island is very different to the other beach we were at on Monday. It drops off fast and there wasn’t any muscles or shells to stand on in the water.
Stefan armed with his coupon book took us to Brooklyn brewery. This was a small place but with a large outdoor area that was quite busy.
We headed back to the boardwalk for some cocktails listening to music in the sun in the most fun bar on the strip. Feeling the heat again we took one more Splosh in the ocean before going to Tom’s bar just 15yards away. This was less fun as we kept getting attacked by mossies. At Ruby’s we grabbed a seat at the bar for a break from the sun & played some trivial pursuit questions they had lying around.
Our final stop was a bar next to the brewery called Steeplechase. Outdoors here they had a game of bean bag toss that we had seen on tv for the first time the night before. We played round robin games watching the sun come down in what was a lovely setting.
Before departing Coney Island we all had to go on one ride together. We opted for the log flume. Which of course made sense now that it was dark to go get wet!
Back home we grabbed some Popeyes, with Stefan translating for us. We watched some episodes of the Ranch. With Becky falling asleep, Stefan and I watched Trevor Noah.
