Feeling acclimatised and refreshed I started the day with a short run through the park and around the Brooklyn museum. The park was busy with pre work runners and cyclists.
Becky and I headed off early to the 9/11 museum that had not been open on my previous visits. Here we purchased the City Pass that I had first used in 2012 to save on other attractions in the city. The museum itself is quite a somber experience as you can imagine. Hearing phone calls from people on the plane and rescue workers brought home the individual human aspect of what happened.
To follow we needed to do something completely different to change the mood up. Becky and I headed off for lunch at Hooters. It was very quiet for our weekday visit which was nice. Becky picked up a new top before we left. With rain due in we abandoned the idea of Empire State and instead set about shopping in Macy’s. Much to my dismay they no longer stock Armani Jeans! With Becky’s input I purchased two shorts in the sale and used the visitor discount on top. Needing a break from shopping we popped out in the rain to a cafe 31 which is a sports bar next to Maddison Square Garden, where a few people had dropped in to escape the rain. Revitalised we went back to Macy’s and I got two pairs of shoes and this time for a 15% discount as Becky had discovered a Macy’s discount in the City Pass. To round off a successful shopping trip we treated ourselves to a happy hour glass of champagne in the newly opened basement bar.
For dinner we met up with Emily and her friend Dave at Cava. Cava is a fast food establishment serving healthy meals. Becky and I both opted for the meatball grain bowls. This was very tasty and very affordable.
Emily and Dave both knew of a bar round the corner and when we went in we discovered it was pub quiz night. The four of us entered under the team name Blind Confidence. The first round we did well as it was named Duh, so the answers were fairly obvious. We acquitted ourselves fairly well throughout. Stefan joined us for the last few rounds and we ended up finishing tied 6th out of 20 teams.
