Today I was up at 5:30 - once again couldn't sleep so well!
The place I was staying was so good they through a free breakfast for us starting at 6 which included toast, jams, cornflakes, tea, coffee the perfect ingredients for a kickstart to today's walk! I left the hostel at 6:45am feeling great I threw my arms in the air actually!
However twenty minutes down the road my knee started to give me hell and crippled me to a slow hobble so much so that when I stopped I couldn't start again! I found a stick and turned it into a walking stick and hobbled up the hill!
The next two hours were horrible - reassuring myself and telling myself "this too shall pass" I felt like quoting many times but unbelievably the stick I was wobbling against helped!
A lowering of the ego and the use of the stick is a significant turning point on my journey! I know age doesn't matter but what's more important is no associating with these preconceived notions of age such as your young or your fit etc!
I keep telling myself I am half these people's age I am carrying half the size backpack why am I struggling so much? You know why because I am so worried about everyone else and their thoughts! This is my journey - selfish and self-centered maybe but I am learning myself learning my thoughts!
I continue on hobbling and ask for some help from above and I speak no lie the next thing I am floating! Turns out all you need to do is put one foot after the next :)
I keep going and decide to keep stops to a minimum to avoid knee locking!
I taste the most wonderful yellow pears from the side of the trail today and then 3km on some of the juiciest figs I have ever eating!
It's funny but the Camino seems to give you just what you need when you need it - it gave me a stick to hold me up when I was ready to fall, delicious fruit to quench my thirst and a friendly ear to tell my tale! I feel so great by my destination I decide to keep going 9km more and two towns further on to Torres Del Rio where I run into two friends I hade made 3 days earlier: Irish Ashley and Canadian Emily we all decide to stay the night and check into Casa Maria with all the necessary facilities!
Spending the afternoon resting, drinking, chatting and enjoying Spain!
I am starting to realize the Camino is not at all about the walk but it is about me…….…
