The first day of the Camino!
We had stayed the night in a ladies house which had been converted to an overflow pilgrims accommodation!
She was very strict and there was a rule for everything haha - in the morning I went to have a bite to eat and was told not allowed not allowed you can't eat here?
So I started the walk with 2 friends I had met the day before Lizy from the US and James from Australia!
The first section was incredibly challenging all up hill for start point of 170m above see level to 1400m!
Incredibly beautiful slightly overcast and full of good vibes! We had been told the first day was the most difficult and it certainly lived up to it's name!
I noticed most of the people doing the Camino were a lot older then me and doing it with 2 to 3 times size pack as me so any thought of complaint was swiftly discarded!
It became very obvious today we are all walking the same path and I have profound respect for all those that came before me, all those I walk alongside and all those who will walk the Camino in the future!
After about 7 hours and 32km (adjusted) I have arrived in Roncesvalles Navarre Spain! Viva La Espania - it's great to be back in Spain and sad to say goodbye to the beautiful French Country side!
I met some wonderful people today but unfortunately lost my friends I started with in the first hour - they were to take a much more leisurely pace!
Tonight I stay in a Convent Albergue with 183 beds! Awesome I know but no supermarket so maybe I splurge tonight on a meal or I have a spare tin of tuna with my name on it!
Glad to now be resting, washing done and pondering the journey :)
