44km in 7 hours today and 3 new blisters to prove it! I am seriously doing something wrong with my feet as I now have blisters on every single toe!
After a fantastic nights sleep and only 3 other people to share the entire Albergue with I was off walking at 6:30am! Unfortunately this morning was bitterly cold and misty until about 9am!
The first part of the trek was through the bush which I really enjoyed as it was also still dark with only the moon to light my way! I have noticed my pace is also picking up immeasurably!
I hit the town of Carrion de Los Condes by 9:30am and was looking to find a shop for supplies and mod morning breakfast! Unfortunately nothing was open but as I was leaving town over the bridge there in the middle of the bridge on the railing was a 850g can of tinned peaches in syrup (presumably left by a fellow pilgrim not wanting the extra weight). Exactly what I needed at exactly the right time - The Camino once again produces :)
About 2km on I sat down to the most amazing meal of tinned peaches and although worried at first I managed to eat the whole tin!
With that sugar hit I was off, from this point on there was a lot of flat walking which can be pretty painful and dis-heartening; looking off in the distance to see nothing but an endless track!
I thought about my family my home and that warmed the soul enough to get through the next 20km!
I am still not sure weather I prefer to walk by myself or with others - maybe a bit of both!
Today I was aiming for a small town called Ledigos and when I arrived I was put off by the people running the Albergue. I walked in and found 3 girls lazing about so in my best Spanish I asked about bed and they just pointed and groaned I went and had a look and was family living there so I left!
A common occurrence on the Camino I see is the lack of interest or business sense of the people. For most part along the Camino people running cages, shops, Accomodation along the way couldn't give you the time of day - this is very strange to me as the Spain I know is beautiful because of the people and the culture - unfortunately this has been lost to a large degree along the way!
I make my way to next town Terradillos de Templarios and head for the Albergue where they happen to have a very small shop to pick up some overpriced supplies!
Once again I am put off by the people running the place and decide to backtrack 1km to a hostel on the outskirts of the town which looked much nicer.
I arrive and am pleasantly surprised and once again barely anyone staying!
I meet to American brothers John and Joe from Indiana who give me some good advice about my blister situation!
The Albergue has no shop just a Pilgrim menu for €10 - I am yet to partake in spending €10 on dinner as I am more inline with following the pilgrim persona of eating cheaply and spending majority of money on a bed - seeming silly to spend more on one touristy meal then a bed for the night!
So for a bit of an update now:
Today was my 13th day of walking,
I have 387.5km to go to reach Santiago and thus have walked 401.5km - so yeehaarrr I have made the half way point!
My knee is holding with lots of painkillers and support!
My feet are a mess with blisters and I am beginning to worry about this now!
My mind is strong my body is weaker!
With some help from above I will make it to Santiago - hopefully within 16 days and by the 17th of October!
The 3 day walk to Finnesterre (87km) is still a possibility but at the moment far in the back of my mind!
