Day 16 - 30km
276 km to go
Today started much like any other day except I was up at 5am and there was a kitchen where I was staying which meant a warm chamomile tea to kick-start the mornings walk.
My shin splints gave me hell today and maybe it was the Camino telling me to slow down either way I slowed my pace down considerably!
The walk was along a track next to the main hwy again so a lot of time looking at oncoming traffic!
I passed some beautiful little towns and found some wonderful fig trees to quench my sugar cravings! The aim was to make it to Astorga (43km) but the body wouldn't allow it! I pushed on to 1pm until the legs said no more.
So tonight I am camping out in a small town with no shops and no people - the good thing is there is 5-6 pilgrims here and the sun is out :)
They serve dinner for €8 but that's out of my price range. Anyways the guy that runs the Albergue also named Daniel has told me I can eat with everyone and not to worry about money :) Too kind I can't believe it actually!
So I was thinking today what to do after I reach Santiago? Visit friends, do another Pueblo Ingles program or stick with my original plan to walk to Porto in Portugal!
Either way I am greatful today for everything life has presented me good and bad!
So tonight was my first Pilgrim Dinner Night as I havn't been forking out the €10 for it! Ok wow it was the absolute highlight of the Camino so far - I met and actually got to know 10 of the most amazing people! The family cooked Italian dishes which included Rissoto to start, roast chicken/potatoes, garden salads and my absolute favourite tortilla oh and about 7 bottles of red wine!
Not knowing when I would get to eat like this again I took liberties on the situation and ate enough for 2! Hey why not I am exercising!
