This morning I was up at 7:15am as there were a number of Pilgrims making a lot of noise and talking loudly - not to complain though they were probably excited :)
Anyways I met some really great people last night 1 girl from Holland and a brother and sister from Madrid and we shared a meal together and a load of laughs. So this morning everyone raced out of the Albergue by 8am but us 4 took our sweet time chatting having a long breakfast and didn't leave till about 9am. I said goodbye to my new friends and made way for Redondella about 19km away and up and down two big hills.
Unfortunately today was quiet tricky and there were a lot of junctions were I would continuously go the wrong way. I ended up walking a lot of extra kilometers and having to ask directions several times. Kind of made for a stressful day and not too much time to smell the roses.
I did however have the sun come out when I had reached the highest point of today's walk and the view looking down over the lake was stunning to say the least.
Once again today I started to question why I was still walking and maybe it was time to catch a bus to Portugal and see the place. This was partly due to my shin pain coming back, too much weight in my pack and I think my immune system is quite weak at the moment!
I notice I am getting lots of little infections on my fingers and mosquito bites - similar to two weeks into the Camino Frances when I guess I was run down. This is also making me think I should take a few days off!
I arrived at the Albergue at 1pm and met a fellow pilgrim Nathanial from the USA who similar to myself has been traveling and teaching. We cooked up a big feed for lunch and boiled up a heap of chestnuts we had both collected!
I have mentioned it before but I still can't believe how many wild chestnut trees there are in Spain and that nobody collects them. These nuts are incredibly delicious and very expensive when purchased outside of Spain.
Later on we went for a wonder about the city and see if we could try our hands at Dumpster Diving Spanish Style.
Unfortunately no luck so we went to Eroski Supermarket and managed to get a huge feed of vegetables - 1kg of onions, 1/2 kg of small green peppers, 1/2 kg of carrots and some sausages for about €2.
The kitchen where we were staying was very small and we shared it with a group of 6 Old Spanish men who were trying to cook Spaghetti - I was trying to explain to them there huge pot of water was too big and would never heat up haha after about 2 hours I decided to just empty 3/4 of the water out for them and it started to boil! They thought Nathanial and I were champions and at first kept bringing on wine for us to skull, next came cheese then more wine and then tapas started with chorizo and bruschetta and god we had a huge feed cooking up ourselves and in no time I was feeling bit drunk! The old guys were hilarious having free pourers on there wine and bringing in a new bottle every 5 minutes and then came their spaghetti! I don't know if I have ever eaten or dranken so much in my life! But what a great night shared with the old Spanish guys and my new American friend Nathanial - This is why I am walking the Camino: to meet some truly amazing people and share amazing experiences with these people. We are all the same at the end of the day.
2 Days and I should almost be in Portugal!
