Last night the Manager of the bizarre Albergue where I was staying kindly gave me a sleeping bag to keep warm. It's funny everybody complained about Albergue and Manager but he was so kind to me even bringing me out bread to have with my sardines and peas whilst all other high paying guests were inside having their 3 course meal.
If you always approach people and situations positively and expect the best that is likely to be what you receive! The more I travel the more I realize that most people are good, kind and well hearted!
Not a lot of sleep last night thanks to sleeping in a freezing cold addick! I had myself a bit of a sleep in this morning and didn't get on the road till 8:30am!
Unfortunately the weather wasn't looking so good so I prepared for rain!
I met up with a fellow pilgrim Darcy from Torronto Canada and as we were walking the same trek we decided to walk together! Darcy has only just started walking so his pace was quick - specially since I am supposed to be slowing down! Straight into the foggy mountains and beautiful lush green trails - today was easily the most scenic and mountainous part of the Camino so far!
Early on we found a gigantic wild fig tree and stuffed ourselfs fool of big purple figs!
Unfortunately my shin pain came back at about 10km and I struggled the rest of the way - this is worrying me and now the possibility of doing the Portuguese way is seeming less and less likely!
To make it to Santiago is the big goal and is certainly not going to be a walk in the park!
The trail was full of fruit trees and we also managed to find som mulberries and some incredibly sweet apples!
The rain came hard about halfway so out came the poncho and the hard slug into the wind!
My goal was to make it to La Faba 25km - my absolute limit but unfortunately on arrival into La Faba we found the Albergue was now closed down meaning another 5km trek uphill to the next town O'Cebreiro! This proved to be one of the hardest sections of the Camino being a steep incline up about 300m into a freezing cold wind!
The Albergue is at the top of the mountain range (1300m) and the wind and weather is crazy up here! Unfortunately no warm water and no blankets means I am in for a cold night!
Oh well it's great to be back in Gallicia my home away from home and the greenest part of Spain.
Just 155km to go..……
