European Adventure 2017
Unfortunately our long run of good weather appears to have come to an end and it is heavy overcast and occasional rain this morning as we push on up the west coast of Scotland. Still, how can we complain after the magnificent weather we have had so far. Heading up the road from where we stayed the night we stopped to do some grocery shopping in a Tesco Extra which we could have spent ages in as it had so much in the way of clothing and anything you could think of really. Not too far up the road and it was morning tea time and a convenient place for a boil up was in the banks of Loch Lomond. The sun came out as we made our coffee and it was a lovely view across the lake. Down the road a few miles was a picnic spot called Firkin Point and we wandered down to the waters edge. It was quite chilly even though the sun was out and we were surprised to see some silly person in having a swim - complete with wetsuit and bathing cap though. The scenery as we entered the Highlands was spectacular. Every turn in the road seemed to lend itself to a photo opportunity. The green of the hills and the trees and with so much water around, whether it be sea, lochs or rivers, the scenery was stunning. We stopped at the top of a pass at a place called Rest and be Grateful. Such wonderful names! Lunch stop was at Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and Restaurant which Mandy and Charlie had been to 22 years ago. It is literally a bar at which you sit and eat oysters plus a restaurant alongside. We opted for the restaurant and had a fabulous meal. Mandy chose the oysters as a starter and I had the smoked salmon as did Charlie. Geoff had chowder. Mains were all different but all seafood and were all very nice. We thought we would all want a sleep later on but the scenery was too good and we stayed wide awake as we searched for our next camping spot. We are currently at a lovely spot that is an associate member of the Caravan Club. We are the only ones here and we are surrounded by trees and ferns with a lovely river passing in front of the site. Bliss.
