European Adventure 2017
Those damn crows in the morning! It's either pigeons or crows in the UK. You can tune out to the pigeons but not the crows quite so easily. We wandered over the hill for a walk to Lulworth Cove which was a lovely spot. More incredible coastline, part of the Jurassic Coast dating back 185 million years. We walked down into the little fishing village and asked a couple of fisherman what they had in their catch which they had just rowed ashore with. 'Crabs' they said but certainly weren't keen to show me their catch. We moved on up the road to the lovely little village called West Lulworth which we had driven through yesterday. Finding a park was a problem again but we found a spot on the road eventually and we parked with two wheels on the footpath to make more room for cars to pass, however one of the locals came out and told us that was not allowed and we should park on the road as all the locals are happy to stop behind and wait until the road is clear. So we parked up blocking our side of the road and headed in to see the lovely village with its thatched roofs. Talking of parking. The other day when we went to Rye there was a long straight part of the road prior to the village. As we left Rye later in the afternoon, we headed back along this straight and noticed a rubbish truck stopped on the other side of the road with the hazard lights on. Unfortunately our GPS 'Mona' had misbehaved again and told us at the end of that straight we had to turn back. It took a while to find a spot but when we did we came back along the straight only to find the truck still there with its 4way flashers going and no sign of any rubbish collecting action. We waited in line behind several cars to pass the truck only to find when we did that the three guys inside were just sitting there eating their lunch! Yesterday the guys all had haircuts Leicester had his done in Brighton and was very happy with the result and the £13 price tag. Later in the day after lunch in Lymington Geoff called into a hairdresser and lifting his hat asked for a price for a scissor cut. The very astute lady quickly said it's not a big job - I'll do it for a fiver and so the deal was done. The rest of today for us was spent driving along the coast down to the Sandgate Inn in Kingsteignton near Torquay. This is another Brit Stop and we were very pleasantly greeted and entertained by a couple of the locals who have invited us all to their place for a cooked breakfast tomorrow morning. On the way down we stopped at a really lovely and historic fishing village called Beer. This village formed part of the defence in they Napoleonic war and also had a radar base set up there during the Second World War to help with the air defence. The sheltered also protected the fishing fleets from storms. It had the typical white cliffs, round stoney beach and this ever present candy stripped deck chairs for hire at 80p a half day. The normal village gutter along the road seems to contain a fast flowing stream which looked lovely and ended its trip through the town by disappearing through the stones in the beach. Charlie and Mandy headed north to Dorchester and looked at some interesting things there and Lidka and Leicester went to Weymouth before we all headed to the Sandgate Inn. We had a meal and some drinks there before comparing stories over a coffee in our van. Not a very early start tomorrow as our invite for breakfast is at 8.30 which should be a lot of fun.
