European Adventure 2017
We left our little camp site in Esholt in Bradford this morning but it has been a delightful stay. The cricket ground beside us was immaculate and it was a shame in some respects that we had to leave when we did as they have a home game planned for the Saturday. When we arrived there two days earlier we were unsure where to go to book in but there was a light on in the room at the end of the clubhouse which is the building behind the van in the photo. It took a while but eventually the door opened to reveal a Fred Elliot lookalike for those familiar with Coronation Street. There he was resplendent in a pink towel from the waist down and bubble bath bubbles over his shoulders and head!!!!! I could have sworn we were part of a soap opera! Speaking of which the cricket ground is just down the road from where Emmerdale Farm was filmed originally and there is a little shop there selling souvenirs of the series.
We have been following the celebrations commemorating D-Day today. The radio has been full of music, interviews and other interesting things related to those times some of which have been very moving.
After leaving the site we headed over to the Bride and Groom's to help get the wedding stuff up to Ilkley where the wedding is to be. We had the nervous privilege of taking the cakes, the glasses, the decorative vases and other bits and pieces along the bumpy narrow lanes to the venue which will look spectacular tomrorrow. Becky has made most of this all herself, one very clever lady.
Everyone headed up to a pub called the Cow and Calf which is close to the moor where the photos will be taken and got to meet each other and had a meal. Some were staying there but we headed off to our rather nice little campsite on the other side of Ilkley overlooking a valley. Big day to morrow so we are hoping for a day like today but unfortunately rain and thunderstorms are predicted all day. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen.
